Catholic church, sold, now to be a mosque

Some of you may have seen what recently transpired in my native place. A Catholic Church, where a friend of mine had been pastor, was closed and then sold to Muslims. It will soon be a mosque.

This is seriously galling.

Former St. John's Church - Cross removed

St. John’s church finds new owner

Will be an Islamic faith center

The altars are gone, and the cross has been pulled off the top of the building.

It’s official — St. John’s Catholic Church has been decommissioned by the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, and sold off by St. Pascal Baylon Catholic Church, which owned the buildings.

The sale to the new owners, the Darul-Uloom Islamic Center, closed on Friday, June 20. The sale included the church building, the empty school, and the attached rectory, which was used as rental housing. [What a grand place that rectory was.]

The St. Pascal Baylon parish took over care of St. John’s as part of a directive from the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis — with the merger, St. John’s was effectively closed.

A local beacon of hope

It started 66 years ago when a squat, angular building was constructed on the corner of Washington Lane and Limekiln Pike in West Oak Lane.
Back then, the neighborhood was largely Jewish, and the building was the new home for a synagogue called Temple Sinai. The congregation later added a school.
An older Jewish friend who attended the synagogue back then remembers it as the place where she received her religious instruction.
By the 1960s, however, the neighborhood was beginning to change complexion. Blacks, including my own parents, began to move into the area. That’s when the building was sold to a black Christian congregation—the West Oak Lane Church of God.
The transition was peaceful. No one was attacked, beaten or burned. The building was not looted or destroyed. And while there was a racial element to the transition of both the neighborhood and the building, no one was castigated based on their religion. In the aftermath of the sale, the Christian congregation thrived there for decades……………..
We left the church a number of years ago, but we learned recently that the building had been sold again—this time to a Muslim congregation.
The Muslim presence is growing in Philadelphia, especially in the black community.
Muslims are not strangers. They are, in many cases, our brothers or our cousins, our friends or our neighbors. They are people we know.

A former chapel featured in one of LS Lowry’s renowned street scenes is to reopen as a mosque.

The plan to use the Mount Zion Methodist Church in Clitheroe, Lancashire, as a Muslim place of worship initially sparked fierce opposition.

The chapel can be seen in the 1954 painting A Street in Clitheroe, one of several paintings that Lowry, famous for his matchstick men, made of the town.

This Oyinbos are digging the grave for their civilization and preparing doom for their future generations. Islam has never benefited any society that embraces it. Such society go from Light into obscurity. Where now are the glories of Egypt, Persia (Iran), Babylon (Iraq), the reputed places for learning and science?

They are now fountains of violence: a clear sign that Islamic world has lost grip of knowledge and are seeking recognition by violence.

Terrorism will soon be a common phenomenon in these places where they trade the Living God (Jehovah) for a dead one.
Time will tell,.
