A muslim man should not wear a watch, ring, chain etc made of gold.

The Prophet (SAW) mentioned that

"Men have been forbidden from wearing gold rings." (Abu Dawud no. 4044 and At-Tirmithi no. 1738)"


Also Recorded by Al-Bukhari and Muslim from Al-Bara' bin 'Azib, may Allaah be pleased with him.

When the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu `alayhi wa sallam) saw a man with a gold ring on his hand, he removed it and hurled it onto the ground. He then said,

íÚãÏ ÃÍÏßã Åáì ÌãÑÉ ãä äÇÑ ÝíÌÚáåÇ Ýí íÏå

"One of you takes to an ember from the Fire and then puts it on his hand!" (Muslim no. 2090)



So the first question of "Men Don't Wear Gold Chain" is YES. It's forbidden. The reason will be seen for the other question.

Muslim Men Don't Wear Chain At All?

Allah has forbidden any action by a man to look like a woman or imitate a woman. This includes wearing wigs, skirts, ear-rings, talking like a woman et al that adorn or enhance a woman's beauty.

In Bukhari and other hadith: The Prophet wore a silver ring and people began to wear silver rings. They wore them after his time also. To be on the "safer" side, it'll be advisable to wear not even a silver chain because it is considered as copying women in their specific form of attire or adornments.
