Quantitative Reasoning

A housewife forgot her Bank account PIN Code which is a 5 digit number, but luckily she remembered some hints on how to recall this PIN Code.

Here are some of the clues:

1) The first digit is the square of the 2nd.
2) The sum of the 2nd and 3rd is 10.
3) The 4th is equal to the 2nd plus 1.
4) The 3rd and 5th makes 14.
5) The sum of all the digits is 30.

What's the PIN Code?

All I saw up there are just answers, though right but I ws like WTF! where is d workings? I now saw one of My brothers up there ( Joshuabase ) grin he said I did a lil quadratic equation, that brought d inspiration.

let's say the 5 Numbers are ABCDE respectively

from the question

…A=B²(1st Number)
B+C=10 that means
C=10-B (3rd Number)
B=10-C that means 10-(10-B) equals B (2nd Number)
D=B+1 (4th Number)
E=14-C that means 14-(10-B) that equals 4+B (5th Number)

Now let's add all
B²+B+(10-B)+(B+1)+(4+B)=30
B²+B+10-B+B+1+4+B=30
B²+B+10+1+4+B=30
B²+2B+15=30
B²+2B-15=0

B²+5B-3B-15=0
(B²+5B)-(3B-15)=0
B(B+5)-3(B+5)=0
B-3=0 or B+5=0
B=3

Now that we've got the second number (B)

First number is 3² = 9
Second number is B = 3
Third number is 10-B = 7
Fourth number is B+1 = 4
Fifth number is 14-third number = 7

Her password is 93747

She should not forget such next time!!! undecided undecided

let's say the 5 NumberS are ABCDE respectively

from the question

…A=B^2 (1st Number)
B+C=10 that means
C=10-B (3rd Number)
B=10-C that means 10-(10-B) (3rd Number)
D=B+1 (4th Number)
E=14-C that means 14-(10-B) that equals 4-B (5th Number)

Now let's add all
(B^2)+(-B)+(10-B)+(B+1)+(4-B)=30
(B^2)-B+10+1+4-B=30
(B^2)-2B+15=30
(B^2)-2B-15=0

cheesy

(B^2)-5B+3B-15=0
((B^2)-5B)+(3B-15)=0
B(B-5)+3(B-5)=0
B+3=0 or B-5=0
B=-3

the problem now is why am I not getting B as -3 and not 3

Oga Joshuabase how did u get ur 2nd Number to be 3, in short how did u do it

I don try.

The factors are +5 and -3 I.e x=3 and not +3 and -5 which gives -3

Re-check your workings,I'm a lil busy at the moment to type my workings,maybe later in the evening
