please general house permit me to say this we all
know that we are not in the same state. so what i
want every body to do is this, state what you
produce and where your farm is located and your
current city so that when organizing meeting you
know people who will attend and people who will
not attend according to their place of interest.
another thing is we will need to register as a
cooperative society according to the number of
persons in each state, and general cooperative
society meaning we are going to have 2 category
of society state level and federal level so that
member who are not financially independent can
easily have access for loan. and also each state
will have a particular product to produce in
commercial quantities at any given point in time.
thanks for your cooperations and understanting.

FORMS OF BUSINESS ORGANIZATIONS – CO-
OPERATIVE ENTERPRISE A Co-operative enterprise
is formed, owned and democratically controlled by
a group of individuals, organizations or workers,
who voluntarily pool their resources together and
invest them in business for their benefit. TYPES OF
CO-OPERATIVE ENTERPRISES There are several
types of Co-operative enterprises, but at this level
we will consider the Producers’ Cooperative and
the Consumers’ Cooperative . 1. The Producers’
Cooperative The Producers’ Co-operative can also
be called the Farmer’s Cooperative Society . It is
formed, owned and run by farmers who
themselves are the producers. The society
encourages its members to combine and produce
their goods so as to enjoy the benefits of large
scale production. This is because together, they
can achieve more than when they produce
individually. The goods produced are sold, and the
profits generated are shared among the members.
2. The Consumers’ Cooperative The Consumers’
Co-operative is formed, owned and run by
individuals who pool financial resources together to
buy consumer goods in bulk at lower rates from
producers. Because they deal directly with the
producers, they buy at lower prices since they do
not require the services of middlemen (i.e. retailers
and wholesalers) who would have charged them
higher prices. SOURCES OF CAPITAL TO THE CO-
OPERATIVE ENTERPRISE Capital is usually raised
through the contributions of members who pool
resources together. Other sources may include: 1.
Loans from financial institutions such as banks. 2.
Subsidies may be granted by the government. 3.
Retained earnings of the cooperative. ADVANTAGES
OF THE CO-OPERATIVE ENTERPRISE 1.
Membership is voluntary. 2. Members are
committed to the business because they own the
business and pool resources together. 3. Members
achieve more since they run the business as a
group and not individually. For the producers, they
enjoy the benefits of large scale production; while
for the consumers, they buy in bulk at cheaper
rates. 4. Members have the advantage of receiving
financial assistance from the government through
the cooperative. 5. The cooperative is
democratically controlled. Members have one vote
each, which means that all members have equal
rights in making decisions that concern the
business. 6. There is less disagreement between
management and workers. This is because the
business is managed by elected persons who are
themselves owners who also want the best for the
business. 7. The cooperative can loan out money
to its members at lower rates. DISADVANTAGES OF
THE CO-OPERATIVE ENTERPRISE 1. Members who
are elected to manage the business may not have
the right business knowledge, skills and abilities to
manage the business effectively. They may have
been elected based on their popularity. As such,
the business may not enjoy as much benefits nor
make the profits it would have made if properly
managed. 2. The cooperative business requires
huge money to grow and expand, but most of its
members are peasant farmers and the ‘struggling
to survive’ masses who do not have that much
money. 3. Most of the members who receive loan
from the cooperative, find it difficult to pay back
the loans. In some cases, such members begin to
avoid attending the cooperative’s meetings and
become inactive. 4. Many of the members are
illiterate (i.e. they cannot read and write). As a
result, they feel cheated whenever businesses are
transacted and documents are presented since
they cannot read to understand the terms of the
contract themselves before accepting.
