HYPOCRISY IS A MISCHIEVOUS GOD Shames Its Worshipers to Entertain Us -Attorney Patryk Utulu Tomorrow is Nigerian Election 2015 D-Day: our most consequential day in this young 21st Century. Use it well. Vote. Your boisterous electioneering would be for naught if you fail to vote and/or having voted, you create circumstances that undermine the expressed collective mandate of millions of your fellow citizens. 'Tis time to be a patriot, not a hypocrite. The time for wishful thinking is clearly over. The matured "Nigerian" in every Nigerian is needed. The pre-qualification for the Nigerian Presidency consists of the expressly stated minimum age, citizenship, "High" School Certificate educational equivalency, and membership and sponsorship of a political party. Though it is unwritten it is also implied that Nigerians with criminal records or certifiably insane -- or worse -- Nigerians who are demonstrably poor or lacking in material resources are unwelcome, yes? VOTE WISELY Re-election decisions must be based on aggregate performance viewed against the background of global events and inherited "national" circumstances that must then be WEIGHED AGAINST the records/skills of a challenger. When you step into that polling station, be a Nigerian patriot. The attacks on Dr. Jonathan based on his ethnicity and proven Ph.D. education were as irresponsible as the attacks on Maj-General Buhari based on perceived lack of minimum education considering that he was allowed to run for that office in 2003, 2007, and 2011. Hypocrisy everywhere sucks whether it is in Nigeria or in the United States. For example, for 7 years it has rankled my sense of fairness to see and hear a host of ignorant, illiterate and provincial Americans repeatedly attacking Barack Obama based on his race and "intellect" (including questioning the educational qualification of the law professor and top honor student of Harvard law school). They even forced this native-born President of America to publicly produce his birth certificate. Despite that when he was born his socially enlightened mother also place advertisement in a Hawaii newspaper over 50 years ago. BUT HYPOCRISY IS A GOD THAT SHAMES THOSE WHO WORSHIP IT. Now, a top Republican Party candidate running for U.S. President (Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin) is a school drop out. Another Republican Party candidate for President (Sen. Ted Cruz) was born OUTSIDE of the U.S. to an American mother and a Cuban father. The same people who cried loudest that then-Sen. Obama (born to an American mother and a Kenyan father (INSIDE the U.S.) was ineligible to be President are now arguing loudly that Mr. Cruz, born NOT in USA but in CANADA is eligible to run for U.S. President. To strip them of the last shred of integrity, Mr. Obama and Mr. Cruz are both are members of racial minority groups. Obama is African American. Ted Cruz is Hispanic-American. So, my fellow Nigerians: regain your patriotism and vote for the candidate of pluralistic, multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multicultural ONE NIGERIA. Do NOT forget that on the other side of the midnight of election day, you and your family will inextricably and irrevocably inherit the Nigeria you elected with your vote. HYPOCRISY IS A GOD THAT DEVOURS THOSE WHO WORSHIP IT... ***** Attorney Patryk A.
