Basic Ways To Promote And Preserve The Nigerian Culture And Tradition. by Nobody: 5:11pm On Apr 01, 2015
Culture is the art and custom that characterise a particular society or nation. A lot of Nigerians, especially the youth have desist from the Nigerian traditional way of life due to influences from external bodies and ignorance. Below, are ways to promote and protect our culture.
1) Organization of traditional festival
2) Teenagers and youth should be encouraged to put on native clothes and eat native food.
3) youth should desist from practicing and imitating the culture of other people. Usually caused by excess viewing of Hollywood movies.
4) Nigerian native languages should be taught in elementary and secondary schools, even in tertiary institution.
5) youth should learn to watch native Nigerian movies.
6) All Nigerians must learn how to speak their native languages.

you can post your own contributions on how to promote and preserve our culture.
It is the responsibility of all Nigerians to protect their culture.

Just these two dat I disagree with.
*u can't exactly force pple to learn their native language, u have to encourage them ni. But some may still choose to not learn it. Its deir choice.

-Schools should organize trips to cultural heritage sites.
-Parents should give their children basic cultural orientation.
-Government and other organizations should organize and promote cultural programmes and initiatives.
-Youths should identify more with their culture, visit their home-towns and learn about their historical evolution.
Nice thread!

The Role of the Radio in Propagating Culture in Nigeria

The radio is believed to be the central in the overall development of the society, this perspective has been accepted by different authorities in mass communication derived from the long standing traditional role of the media (Radio) as catalysts of change.

Great article, totally agree with you.

I will concentrate on number 4 and 6 here.

Lets assume three major Nigerian Languages: Hausa, Ibo and Yoruba.

(a)All Hausa speaking areas and the hinterlands are to create into their education system the enviroment whereby from elementary to tertiary institution, the Hausa language is compulsory and is used to teach all subjects. Ibo & Yoruba are elective subjects, students are to pick one.

(b) All Ibo speaking areas and the hinterlands are to create into their education system the enviroment whereby from elementary to to tertiary institution, the Ibo language is compulsory and is used to teach all subjects. Hausa & Yoruba are elective subjects, students are to pick one.

(c) All Yoruba speaking areas and the hinterlands are to create into their education system the enviroment whereby from elementary to tertiary institution, the Yoruba language is compulsory and is used to teach all subjects. Hausa & Ibo are elective subjects, students are to pick one.

Apart from the fact that the enviroment that allows for these type of conditions to hold will sustain numerous breakthroughs often in all our daily lives, especially in the science and technology sector.

Will further improve our correlation and communicational skills.

At a certain point in time after the implementation of these policies into the current education system, every Nigerian that passes through the new and improved version will be versed in two Nigerian Languages. Leading to a further boost in the Nations productivity.
