The Friday news burying tactics continues, dodgy news statements like these are always put out by this government of fridays

Please can the Senate check the constitution and tell us whether the President has powers to go on leave without being sick or justifiable reasons.
Re: Breaking News: Yar'adua To Proceed On Two-week Leave by cre8tivity(f): 6:52pm On Jan 23, 2009
you're being ridiculous as usual. just in-case you did not know, the full story has not been released, therefore it makes no sense to speculate. i can also assure you that when the rest of the story is released, it wouldn't be on friday. yaradua may be slow, but the man doesn't play stupid game.
yes, the constitution allows the president to take days off for personal or for medical purpose.

14 days off for personal purposes. can you please kindly refer us to the section of the constitution?

And we will not assume the leave was for mdeical purposes if the President has not said he is sick.

Folks!!!!

I guess it is fair to assume that President Yar'adua's response to the economic crisis, crashing naira,crashing stock market, crashing crude prices;

is to go on 2weeks unexplained leave.

Thank you for your concern Mr President.

144. (1) The President or Vice-President shall cease to hold office, if -

(a) by a resolution passed by two-thirds majority of all the members of the executive council of the Federation it is declared that the President or Vice-President is incapable of discharging the functions of his office; and

(b) the declaration is verified, after such medical examination as may be necessary, by a medical panel established under subsection (4) of this section in its report to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

(2) Where the medical panel certifies in the report that in its opinion the President or Vice-President is suffering from such infirmity of body or mind as renders him permanently incapable of discharging the functions of his office, a notice thereof signed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall be published in the Official Gazette of the Government of the Federation.

(3) The President or Vice-President shall cease to hold office as from the date of publication of the notice of the medical report pursuant to subsection (2) of this section.

(4) the medical panel to which this section relates shall be appointed by the President of the Senate, and shall comprise five medical practitioners in Nigeria:-

(a) one of whom shall be the personal physician of the holder of the office concerned; and

(b) four other medical practitioners who have, in the opinion of the President of the Senate, attained a high degree of eminence in the field of medicine relative to the nature of the examination to be conducted in accordance with the foregoing provisions.

(5) In this section, the reference to "executive council of the Federation" is a reference to the body of Ministers of the Government of the Federation, howsoever called, established by the President and charged with such responsibilities for the functions of government as the President may direct.

145. Whenever the President transmits to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives a written declaration that he is proceeding on vacation or that he is otherwise unable to discharge the functions of his office, until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary such functions shall be discharged by the Vice-President as Acting President.

If the President don go holiday, make him explain to us why him they go 2weeks holiday in the midst of Economic crisis.

Otherwise David Mark must look for 5 doctors to unseath this man. 150 million people and Nigeria is bigger than one man.

Though i am quite irritated to say the least i am finding it difficult to muster anything in the way of sympathy for the nation. No one complained and talked or most importantly acted when the bed was being laid, it was all apparently to "stabilise" the country and for the "interest" of the nation, so i guess its a bit childish to now come and start shouting and huffing and puffing that the bed was not well laid when it was obvious from the start. What a paradox, this desire for things that nations out of hard work and sacrifice enjoy without any desire to exercice the principles that brought about such development in nationhood and growth of such nations. Instead of coming online to exhibit the though understandable but now predictable "outrage" or "dissatisfaction" won't such energy be better extended in beginning to get involved to do all we can to make sure the next elections are different and also to make sure that something in the way of progress is at least salvaged from this trainwreck that is on a national scale? Or is there contentment in complaining and watching the ushering in of a Yar Adua second term so that we can once again come online to self indulgently express our all important "dissatisfaction" or "outrage" for the situation that was left to happen?

The saying is true, "Nigerians are greedy, they can never be satisfied, even if you gave them the whole world". What is your business even if he wants to go for ten years leave after all what he has done, can you do the same? Can't we be grateful at least for once? Hasn't he tried enough? His first few days in office he Reduced fuel price and also reduced the rate of VAT, still we say he hasn't tried. in his administration we have this free education, still he hasn't tried, even with his seven point agenda he hasn't tried, now he has reduced fuel price and we are can now buy dollars even at retail from the CBN at NGN 144.01 and still he hasn't tried, ah! Nigerians! When OBJ was in Office, did he achieve that much even with his 2nd Term? Ok think of this: If you were in his shoes, would you have done much? Hasn't he tried? He served Nigeria as a Governor and Now he is still serving her as a President and the EFCC is not at his heels. Is it not enough? Look! it's high time we begin to think about our own selves and pray for Enablement for him to lead us well rather than criticizing every move he makes. Kai! Nigerians! May God Forgive and Deliver us!angry
