No fewer than 18 persons were killed while the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, Yusha’u Dissi, was abducted when armed bandits attacked some villages in the region.

SaharaReporters gathered that Dissi was kidnapped alongside a woman whose identity was yet to be known in Batsari Local Government Area.

The bandits also killed three persons including a 12-year-old boy at Dan Alhaji, Kandawa and Tsugunni villages.

At Yar Gamji Village, the bandits on Monday killed 15 farmers.

Residents of the area disclosed that the farmers were working on their farmland when the bandits attacked about 10am and killed them.

“They killed about 15 people working on their farms before rustling undisclosed number of cattle. They also stole food items,” a source told SaharaReporters.

The Defence Headquarters says the troops of Operations Accord and Hadarin Daji have continued to annihilate bandits in Katsina and Zamfara forcing many of them to surrender.

The Co-ordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

Enenche said the troops have continued to conduct intensive clearance operations to identified bandits enclaves in the North- West, with attendant successes against the criminal elements.

He said the troops had on July 3, stormed a bandits’ camp at Sanu village in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara sequel to actionable Human and technical intelligence on the heavy bandits’ presence in the vicinity. He said that the bandits fled with gunshot wounds, adding that the troops pursued the bandits, engaged them and overwhelmed them with heavy volume of fire.

He said exploitation of the general area led to the recovery of one AK47 rifle and one SMG rifle. “It was also revealed that several bandits suffered heavy injuries and most likely died, as evident in the vast pools of blood along their withdrawal route.

“In a related development, troops made contact with bandits at Bawan Daji village and neutralised one bandit while many others were fatally wounded. “Troops further raided bandits’ enclave at Gidan Zamfarawa about 10km from Mashanyin Zaki.

“The bandits fled on sighting troops from afar but were pursued by the determined troops who engaged them with aggressive firing. “Troops exploited the general area and destroyed seven major bandit camps while one AK47 rifle, and two motorcycles, among others were equally recovered,” he said.

Enenche further disclosed that troops had on July 5, stormed an identified bandits camp at Salihawa village in Batsari area of Katsina State following credible intelligence on their activities in the village. He said that the troops overwhelmed the bandits with superior firepower and neutralised one of the criminals while several others escaped with fatal gunshot wounds.

He said troops also apprehended a suspected bandits’ logistics supplier, Mohammed Illela, at Illela village on July 4, following a tip-off. He said the suspect was arrested while attempting to convey 13 jerrycans of 30 litres of PMS concealed in an ash-coloured Volkswagen wagon car, to suspected bandits.

He added that a bandit was also eliminated during a cordon and search operation by the troops at Bawar-Daji village on July 5. (NAN)

BH’s Shekau faction has released its first clip of a spokesman claiming to be speaking from Niger State. He greeted Shekau and their “brothers” in Sambisa, Lake Chad & Zamfara.

This may be mere bluff but if it’s true, it’s another evidence of BH’s presence in the north-central. Niger has dense mountainous forestry that links all the way to Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara & Sokoto.

This vegetation will a perfect safe haven for BH. It’s thicker than Sambisa forest where BH has eluded security forces for ten years. And Abuja will be within a striking distance.

It’s high time the operations in the northwest and north-central have changed to an anti-insurgency one.

Our intelligence agencies need to invest more resources into these dynamics to investigate this claim and understand the extent of the threat and their coordination strategy.

I guess we will all agree that we have a poor man's army.

This is not an achievement. It is only the physical manifestation of the rot in the army in particular.

Never assume that they are always making use of them.

You don't have too look far, visit s police station and see the ingrained, systemic, institutional corruption and incompetence.

Is that an organisation that people are always making use of thier brains.

True, but all the engrained, systemic, corruption are not exclusive to the police. They are everywhere in Naija, within institutions and citizens, ,,, including you... cheesy ....

Yet we all have brains.

Yeah we have a poor man’s army, for you it’s not an achievement but for those soldiers that face he’ll on the frontline it’s helping and saving lives.
If the government funds the Army well we shouldn’t be seeing stuffs like these, but this is bought out of “when the preferable is not available then the available becomes preferred”.

Wow,,,, on each of those monsters, there are two Cobra APCs.... you start to wonder how many Cobras have been lost in this war.

Anyway,,,, am glad it is an internal war that has exposed the army... on the outside,, they remain unbeaten and will remain so.

We've always known that the military is poorly funded, it's nothing new.
While we all want to see our boys in shining, new and advanced MRAPs and IFVs, this is acceptable for now since it will save life's and reduce the number of boys that have to be inside soft skins. I am not sure but I think this was pulled together from out of service cobra APCs.
If the defense planners aren't senseless, MRAPs should be included in the recent procurement we've been getting hints about.

Nothing one won't see in this country, I watched that Army documentary on nta and its like it was aired to launder more of the COAS image than that of the army. They even used a picture of a Chilean special forces member descending from chute that went viral when one roforofo blog said it was the COAS grin . The whole thing to me is like a politician doing PR during elections campaign for a second term. abi is someone indirectly canvassing for tenure elongation?
E. b. things

Lol, this has happened because the media reported that Buhari said "service chiefs' best is not good enough". I read the story in the papers how Buhari scolded the service chiefs,,,, meanwhile they have done well,,, all of them...

Anyone in government knows that a lot has been achieved and many improvements are ongoing...

It woukd take at least another 8years to completely upgrade the Nigerian army, Navy and Air Force.... it is a gradual process, regardless of what bad mouths people are saying.

Even with $1 Trillion ; no army can reform in 1 year.... so yes, it was a PR documentary to highlight the achievements of Buratai.... in the face of media lies... no vex abeg oh grin

whatever you expected to see? You can find on Youtube.
