The bandits are kidnapping huge numbers of people as they are running from the military onslaught to use as human shields especially against airstrikes.
How will the military cope with this?
The hostages will definitely slow the bandits down but will also grant them protection.

One of the downsides of shutting down communication networks in the state.
Villagers could have used it to pass info on enemy movement and location.

It could also be used to send relocation notices to recognized village heads to move their townsmen out of the general area of fighting.

Yes, the informants can use it to pass info to the terrorists but.... The military can also use it to pass and receive info to and from the civilian populace as well.

This human shield and the ensuing rescue operation just complicates an otherwise, straightforward operation.

Radio comm would have helped, but you won't also trust the village heads

A good isr environment would solve that, also Nigeria has invested in ground radar, which are portable and can be used to reliably track bandits movement.
I have a believe that this zamfara operation is an operational training template for the next fighting season in the north east.

Imagine how the gunner would feel when he is shooting at full auto mode... At high speed... On an untarred bumpy road...under the rain..... And having to shoot (at say...a 60 degree depression)

Then also imagine what the ears of the rider would be passing through with the gun firing that close to his ears(protection might reduce the noise but also prevents you from hearing your team mate).

Whoever designed this should be airdropped naked into one of those bandit camps.

Lol grin

NASRDA claims CSTP as one of its SEVEN activity centres.
The "ownership" structure is quite jumbled.
Its "a centre of NASRDA,located in LASU engineering campus, on land belonging to the Nigerian army, run by the air force and secured by the army"

Funny, NIGERIAS SPACE AGENCY(NASRDA) doesn't have a SECURED WEBSITE.

About 18 people have been kidnapped in Keke, a community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Gunmen were said to have invaded the community around 12midnight.

Eyewitnesses said the gunmen came in large number and after causing confusion in the area, they kidnapped 18 people.

Our correspondent gathered that the police are presently in the area.

There is, however, no official confirmation from the authorities.

Gumi knows exactly what he is doing, he is a collaborator. Every time the military/security agencies initiate an offensive against the bandits, they send representatives to the state governors that they are ready for negotiations and when the governors accept and convince the military to suspend the offensive against the bandits, some accept the amnesty and go back to their old ways while others don't bother at all, they just continue with their crimes.
This time around, the governors are not willing to listen and even if they are, the situation is beyond them so Gumi is trying to create panic and fear to force the government to look at the negotiation path again.
He is a retired military officer so he isn't ignorant of what is going on at all, he understands and he is playing a game.

The problem we have is the media not Gumi. How many people knew Gumi outside his state and environs until the media gave him attention.
He became popular during the Abdulmutallab wahala in 2010.

Not 'so dark' a training site. (To me)

The site is close to a well known Barracks on the mainland.

This are NA ‘Combat unit, Fighting with motorcycle’. A recently re-modelled version of locally available civilian motorcycles which can be armed with an AK-47 or a light machine gun. It carries two soldiers and was designed to support hot-pursuit operations against criminals in the North West/central.

I know someone folks here will come for my head for posting this ... grin
This will be useless on the battlefield and also useless for hot pursuit operations against criminals grin
