Impressive..The new N.A offensive is gaining ground..Right now, we cannot afford to let BH regroup..I think right now is the time to suspend telecom services in Borno and Yobe as was done during the Ihejirika era..This will enable troops isolate BH units, cut them off and destroy them. The days of attrition are over. .Gunships and IFVs backed by highly-mobile units will be the key..SF units can call in artillery strikes on BH camps while destroying the enemy's mobility. Tanks will slow down operations , so the should be employed only on the toughest targets. Mobility is key; the enemy is highly mobile. The N.A could have compensated for its lack of IFVs by deploying 200-400 hilux mounted Zpu-2s. Surplus Soviet stocks are all over the place.

Yeap that is the gomic's don't give them breathing space and don't let them settle down at all! If the regional forces are pouring everything theve got like NA is doing l,BH would av being amputated long ago.
But much still as to be done? We still need mine sweepers at big numbers good men are dying by the day and amputated came across some soldiers that where amputated as a result of land anti personnel mines and IED honestly there is a war going on. NAF as to intensify aerial recconaissance and bombardments.
We shouldn't let dem regroup and strike again, get to dem first and hit dem hard!

Hmmmn who can tell, it depends on the CAS? Indian still operates good numbers of jaguars and they produce the parts locally so why can't we partner with them, cos we decommissioned dem on the grounds of not getting the spare parts from Europe. Now India can be of good help and those birds are far better than the fn7 and alpha jets we fly with or without upgrading!

It isn't a question of who can tell. The Jaguar jets are beyond repair, there is no hope for them.

There is no hope for them!

A number of varying factors which include,

-them not been properly stored,

- the company that sold them to us, no longer in existence

- NAF Jaguars parts, Pocket Pods and serviceable bombs have been taken out and integrated on our Alpha-Jets by NAF engineers.

The Jaguars are a 3 Gen relic that have been retired by Oman, France and all other previous users excerpt India. why do we keep going back to this Jaguar discussion over and over? We should be more concerned with getting newer more capable fighters!

Till 2010 like one or two has always participated in Airforce expo-show's. Fine they might not be properly stored but I don't agree they are not serviceable. If these jaguar are serviced, repaired and upgrade they will carry out precision strike and carry more pay-load not like the j7 or alpha jets that only bombs.
If all the engine are rotten then let them be replaced, india will be willing not only to sell spear parts BuT transfer technology on how we can produce these parts locally ourselves and from the last sightings of these birds in Kainji, truly they are not properly stored but they don't look beyond servicing and repair !
The question his are we willing? It's so so embarrassing that we still fly these old relics the sight of the jaguar looks modern and besides it's a third generational bird!

Boko Haram: COAS Buratai Sends Heart Warming Message to Borno Citizens

Nigeria's The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai during a Borno radio programme on Friday sent out a message to citizens of the state.

“Let me take this opportunity of FM Radio Lafiya programme to assure all citizens of Borno state and the entire citizens of this country that Boko Haram, is crushed to the finish for peace, as the insurgents do not want peace to reign in Nigeria and neigbouring countries of Chad, Cameroon and Niger, which formed the MNJTF in fighting this war that has claimed many lives and property.

“What we solicit from Borno citizenry was their full cooperation with troops of the Nigerian Army by providing them with credible information that could lead to the “complete destruction” of Boko Haram hideouts and cells.”

He however noted that before the replacement of service chiefs by the President, troops do not pursue insurgents, when they were attacked at any military posts or formations in the North East affected states.

Buratai also added: “The morale of our soldiers is now very much high, because of the imported arms and other military hardware are still arriving the shores of the country in fighting this Boko Haram insurgency in Borno state and the North East sub-region”

Buratai spoke on a special Hausa and Kanuri programme of FM Radio Lafiya (Radio peace), on how to ‘crush and end’ Boko Haram insurgency in the country; and as directed recently by President Muhammadu Buhari to the six Service Chiefs.

Relics? But I'm sure they still have roles to perform in the NAF. Like the USAF planning on revamping the Warthog. I'd prefer we invested more effort in acquiring better assets whose quality and service life isn't questionable.

No............. Nigerian Airforce Jaguar jets were withdrawn from service in 1991. That's a full 24 years!

Yet, we see Nigerians from forum to forum always talking about those jets. We bought very useless Jets which came with multiple constraints and we were denied many of the aircrafts advanced capabilities.

The Nigerian Air Force was denied the option of purchasing advanced weapons to enhance the deep strike capabilities of the Jaguar jets except for iron bombs of limited effectiveness. A request for in-flight refuelling tankers was also turned down because they could be used to invade neighbouring countries.

It was stipulated that the jets were to be used only for defensive purposes or they ran the risk of a withdrawal of technical support and spare parts and NAF could not resell/transfer the jets to a third party (another country) without approval of British Aerospace (now BAe Systems), UK Ministry of Defense and the House of Commons.

Subsequently, the technical support agreement expired and was not renewed and more importantly, the assembly line for the Jaguar jet was shut down.

Those Jaguar Jets are rotten, not properly stored, useless and are worthless for the requirements of our Air Force.

We should be more concerned with getting new and proper 4 GEN jets for our Air Force, instead of always talking about Planes that have been decommissioned for 24 years.

They've been decommissioned for 24 years, and the only place they belong to in the NAF is NAF museum.

The Jaguars are an interjection aircraft, not a CAS like warthog.

- everybody wants the NAF to go for a 4th generational jets but what of our immediate needs; innocent lives and brave soldiers are dying by the day.

-even if they are decommissioned 50 yes ago they can still be restored back to live! We can afford it, Only we don't value lives here in dis part of the world.

- how many brave pilots av we lost and how many are still going to die ; because they av to get close to there targets to drop there 500kg bombs or fire there rockets making them vulnerable to zsu guns? With the jaguar being upgraded the terrorist are in deep shit cos they will carry more precision ammunition pending the time we get new jets.

- the British government /bae system can lift there ban if we play our cards right, America just lifted there ban? I believe that was then, when the military are in power , some Check and balances has to be put in place. If they see our seriousness and willingness to fight BH we can confuse them and a little bit of politics can do the game?

- in my own candid opinion the only reason as the CAS ;not restoring those birds is if we don't have pilots who can still fly them. Then it's of no point sending pilots overseas to train, since we going for better jets.

Bidexiii, that photo were taken prior to delivery to the Nigerian Air Force in 1984. The bombs and laser guided munitions do not belong to the Nigerian Air Force. We got sold massively degraded "monkey model" Jaguar jets.

- Spending money on those sub-par Jaguar jets isn't the best or accurate economical path to take. Again the cost of paying HAL to put those jets to flying condition and up-grading them is more than what we would pay for a Light weight 4 GEN jet. It simply isn't an economically viable path.

- Not only have they been decommissioned for 24 years, they simply have not been properly stored. It is an exercise doomed to fail. When NAF contracted the Indians to look at the Jaguar Jets, even they, did not give any guarantees that the entire TAM would be successful.

- America did not lift any ban on Nigeria. We have always been a recipient of non-lethal U.S aid. The British sold us obsolete jets in Shagari's regime ( a democratic regime), and don't see how they would sell us proper fighter planes today, with all the "alleged human rights violations".

- Let us get better, Proper jets, instead of always bickering year in year out on 3rd Gen fighter jets. It is not just worth it.

The SU-30, J-10B, JF-17 thunder, MIG-29K / SMT........ These are proper 4 GEN Jets we should be concerned with, not obsolete, watered down fighters like the ones the British government sold to Nigeria.

Have you guys forgotten how many years it will take to learn and fly these sophisticated 4 generation jets. So u guys would watch as lives are lost when the Indians are willing to help us, I think that's the problem with Nigerians . There is nothing Too much to spend for a country like Nigeria that is battling with insurgents.

- ask ur self how many pilots av u lost ,still flying those relics

- think of it? , the lives of people that will be save if these birds where to be resorsitated if it where to meet our immediate needs.

- India still produce parts so they can be fixed even if it means the whole body parts.

- no matter how costly these we take we can afford it, as long we are talking about lives. We ate just too corrupt in these country.

Chief of Army Staff escapes Boko Haram ambush, soldier killed

Nigeria's new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai, on Friday drove to the frontline of the war on Boko Haram and narrowly missed an ambush that killed one soldier and wounded two, according to the Associated Press (AP).
The ambushed advance team nonetheless killed five insurgents and arrested five on Friday's drive down the most dangerous stretch of road in Nigeria, from Maiduguri, the northeastern city where Nigeria's Islamic uprising was born, northeast to Ngala, on the Cameroon border.
The 140-kilometre ride took four hours with stops, including for soldiers to check for land mines.
An AP reporter in the 20-vehicle convoy drove past burned-out vehicles littering the road until recently controlled by the Islamic extremists. Weeds have overtaken villages once thriving with farmers and cattle herders.
Buratai stopped at Mafa to tell troops of the 112 Battalion to "keep on with the good job" of forcing out the insurgents and urging them on because "there is more work to be done."
A few kilometres down the road, soldiers with binoculars spotted insurgents hiding in a herd of cattle. Buratai called the convoy to a halt and soldiers arrested the militants, who said they had helped ambush the advance team.
Buratai ordered the body of the dead soldier and his two wounded comrades be conveyed to the nearest hospital.
Nigeria's military has said it has been plagued by leaked information from Boko Haram sympathisers in its ranks.
Buratai also stopped to chat with 4,000 refugees camped in Dikwa town. They cheered him for bringing soldiers to save them after the extremists killed five of them on Thursday night.

Military chiefs of Multinational force finalise onslaught plan against Boko Haram

Military chiefs from the Lake Chad region have finalised details of the deployment of a joint force to fight Nigerian Islamist group, Boko Haram, designating three command posts in Nigeria and Cameroon, military sources told Reuters, on Saturday.
At a two-day meeting in N'Djamena, Chad, which ended late on Friday, military commanders from Nigeria, Chad, Niger, Cameroon and Benin agreed to accelerate the deployment of the 8,700-strong force, which will have its overall command centre in the Chadian capital.
A disjointed campaign by Nigeria, Chad and Niger swept Boko Haram out of the towns of northeast Nigeria earlier this year but the group, which has sworn allegiance to Islamic State, has killed hundreds of people in the last three months in those three countries, as well as neighbouring Cameroon.
Regional governments have since dragged their heels in establishing the integrated taskforce, supposed to start operations on July 31.
"We have finalised the details of the deployment of troops," said one officer who took part in the meeting. "The force commanders will inspect the sites of the barracks in the coming days."
The military sources said the two command posts for the joint force in Nigeria would be in Baga, on the shores of Lake Chad, and in Gambaru, on the border with Cameroon.
The third command post would be established further south in the Cameroonian town of Mora, on the other side of the border from the Nigerian settlement of Gwoza, where Boko Haram formerly had its headquarters.
The military chiefs also ordered officers seconded to the headquarters of the force in N'Djamena to report immediately to their posts, as it was almost ready to become operational.

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE AGUSTA HELICOPTER(S) CONFIRMED WEAPONISED..BEECHCRAFT SUPER KING AIR 350i CONFIRMED IN ISR ROLE ; AGUSTA HELO ON ARMED RECCE MISSION DESTROY TWO BOKO HARAM LOGISTICS TRUCKS

PM NEWS
Published on August 24, 2015

Two trailers suspected to be carrying logistics support to members of the Boko Haram Terrorist (BHT) sect have been intercepted and destroyed by the Nigerian Air Force Agusta helicopter on armed reconnaissance mission around the Nigeria-Cameroon border, Air Commodore Dele Alonge Director of Public Relations & Information Nigerian Air Force said in a statement on Sunday.

According to the NAF spokesperson, the trailers were covered and parked at different locations in the bush around the border town of Belel.

Alonge also informed that the recent air operation against Boko Haram targets was commanded by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar from NAF reconnaissance aircraft, the King Air 350i.

“The CAS coordinated the various NAF
platforms involved in the operation to
provide close air support to ground forces, led by the Chief of the Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, as they advance from Dikwa to Gamboru Ngala,” said Alonge.

He also revealed that NAF 260, a Mi-24V attack helicopter was hit during the operation, leading to a damage of one of the main rotor blades. He however added that the pilot was able to successfully fly the helicopter back to base to land.

He added that the affected aircraft has since been repaired and is back to the theater of operation.
