Reason Why Orubebe Disrupt Collation Of President Result. by akanbimustaphao(m): 9:35am On Apr 07, 2015 |
[1] This is a picture of parliamentarians jumping through windows in the Western House of Assembly in 1962 [2] When I saw Godsday Orubebe throw his tantrum yesterday, I really feared that we were in for a repeat performance 53 years on [3] What happened yesterday was identical to what happened in 1962. Back then, an NCNC member (Hon Obebedike) realised that his party would lose the vote so got up and threw a chair to disrupt proceedings [4] As soon as that happened, the police fired tear gas and everyone had to scamper for safety. The government used it as an excuse to dissolve the house and impose a state of emergency on June 29 1962 [5] Remember that Femi Fani-Kayode's dad was one of the masterminds behind the plot back then, so his son knew the script and was probably the one who drew up the plans for Orubebe yesterday [6] This government gave us the Nigerian Governor's Forum election saga in which 17 people managed to outvote 19 [7] This government also gave us the locking of the House of Representatives saga when parliamentarians had to scale the fence to avoid the government impeaching its speaker [8] So after seeing Orubebe yesterday, I am sure those familiar with Nigeria's history feared the worst. Just imagine what would have happened if one security man had become overzealous and tried to force Orubebe out of the chamber. Tear gas would have been fired and in the pandemonium, all the result sheets would have been torn, burnt or made to disappear. We would have had no choice but to have another election [9] Also, just imagine what would have happened had that count been in Orubebe's local government area. He would have stormed the place with thugs, beat up all the Inec officials, seized the result sheets and declared his candidate the winner. This happens everyday across Nigeria in both the APC and PDP [10] Luckily, Nigeria avoided a disaster yesterday. I am particularly surprised Goodluck did not listen to the hawks around him like Asari Dokubo, Government Tompolo, Godswill Akpabio, Femi Fani-Kayode, Doyin Okupe, Godsday Orubebe, Tony Anenih, etc. It appears that the doves like Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Reuben Abati, Olusegun Aganga, Akinwumi Adesina, etc carried the day. However, we need to remain vigilant until May 29. I do not believe those who were brought up in the do-or-die politics will suddenly see a shining light on the road to Damascus before then 1 Like |
