My story is very similar to yours. Happened while I was at Oshodi, on my way to WAEC office to get scratch card that year. I only had sympathy on the bros 'cos he said he was a foreigner and has had his 'goods' confiscated.

Long story short, all the money I had on me were taken by the man and his gang. Thankfully, twas about 3k.

Them laugh me for house that day sha lol.

@Op, you sound very mature, focused, wise and ungreedy. I see greatness written all over you. Please keep it up. I do someone is learning something from your story on how not to expect to reap where they have not sown, cos these fraudster thrive on the greed of human heart-nothing more, nothing less.

The fraudster are only in business because there is always someone greedy enough to fall for their quick-riches stories!

Same modus operandi these guys use even in Lagos. I've gotten into them like four times in 8 years of living in Lagos. I've gotten out of the cab every single time and decided not to get into unpainted cabs ever again.

Hmmmm....

Happens everywhere....

Sometimes last year in the city of akure, while coming from work, i alighted at old garage along adeshida road to buy something when this handsome confused looking fellow came to me and asked for yemkems office.

He then started a useless tale of him having something to sell to yemkem that same day and that he came from ado.
It was at this point that someone else interrupted and called guy a fool for saying he is holding such an expensive material coz the material costs 500,000 and if those garage boys hear about it, the guy will be beaten and the product will be stolen from him.
What's my own with that.

The guy who interrupted our discussion now offered to take d handsome confused looking guy to yemkem's office and started begging me to join him and help the guy so we can escort him to the office together but damn.... After working for 12 hours, i just don't care about anybody again so i excused myself ignoring their plea.

The days later, i heard the story of a guy who went along with them when he was promised 50,000.

He was taken to a secluded spot, beaten mercilessly for looking good and not having money in his pocket and his shirt and shoe confiscated.....lolzzzz. Very lucky me.

Meanwhile, i av been approached for that same scam @ least ten times.

Don't know why always me

cheesy Oh!!! sad Had similar experience in Abeokuta, last year too. They always make use of handsome and confused guys. The guy approached me with something like a pendulum ball, asking me if I know of a particular plaza, and I said, no, then another guy interrupted saying it was expensive, bla bla bla your exact story, I dint even know they were upto something, I just walked away. It was later someone gisted me that she had same experience. Lucky you tho!!!

In a country that has this level of evil, its expedient that we don't need a joker neither clueless dude to sanitise the system, rather we desperately need great leader with lion heart to do needful

I entered the same around last year June, same story, same way, just that they were 3, there was no woman in the car. I already heard such story from a friend earlier and I knew that road also isn't safe, but it's always my major road. So after I entered, the driver drove like 1 or 2min and parked,sum1 wants to drop(d dollar owner) so they started the story,i didn't bother to listen, immediately they started I already knew and I said to myself "oh naa dis people, abeg I no wan delay myslf" I dropped of immediately, thou I listened to them for few minutes b4 dropping, but I already knew from d beginning so it makes it easier for me, besides, we were not on motion then. Same story, but I didn't wait for them to ask me if i'm going to share with them blah blah cus I already knew who they were, I just opened the door, they asked me why do I want drop,if I'm scared or something,i said nothing, that I got no time for all this,so they already knew I have the knowledge of their game. They moved immediately I drop off. This happened along badagry expressway,i took the taxi from igbo elerin express,d junction, we haven't even gotten to afro junction b4 it happened. I was lucky because I knew about the road very well and I knew d point they is ally start the operation from and besides,i already heard about similar dollar stories. I asked myself "shey one oga still dey put dollars for house, where d oga wan see d dollar sef for dis kind country wey tinz no easy, except u be politician, and u can't just keep a lot of money at home, if you get dollar, why u no charter taxi or go buy car immediately sef,u kum carry dollar for boot, not even for ur leg wey u sitdown"

Mine happened on the 16th of March 2015. I was going to secretariat from federal housing kubwa under brigde.

I stood for some time, i didnt see any cab going to secretariat. Area 1, berger, wuse etc came announced themselves took their passengers and left.

I golf car stopped in front of me, he didnt announce or say where he was going, he just made a sign with his hands like "where are you going"? I said secretariat. I went closer i said "secretariat" again incase he didnt hear me very well before. He said i should enter. Noticed that he didnt say where he was going like every other cab driver did. He only signalled to me. In my mind i was like why did this man stop right in front of me to ask where i was going?

In the car was the driver, a man in front, and a woman and another man behind. I entered and sat next to the woman. Funny enough i didnt greet any one (unlike me).

We barely went far when the man behind said he was alighting at the next bus stop. He handed over his money to the driver and also told him he has a ghana must go bag in the booth of the car. The driver asked him, so na you get that ghana must go bag wey nearly put me for trouble? That he wasnt go to stop for him bla bla bla. Then the man infront was begging him to drop him that he is taking him far from his bus stop. The waman also told the driver to drop him.

The driver kept going and i now heard him say, "sister make i tell you wetin happen". I said "ehen" in my mind and wetin concern me. I just told him to please drop me that i'm not going again. I opened the moving car before he even stopped and they were all asking me you no go wait make the car stop?

That's how i jumped out and was save. I dropped it was difficult getting another cab had to trek some distance.

But in my mind i really wanted to see the end of the drama!

Wonder what they would have used be for.

@vickyrotex, they haven't changed their format. Its still the old rugged "Oga die, I run with dollars, go police to report, cry blah blah blah. And there is always a woman among them.

I didn't know I was capable of cursing until the day they tried to pull the stunt on me. I cursed the woman mostly and I am sure her children's children will feel the impact of that curse too

And yet people still fall for it... They just keep accumulating curses for their generation... Too bad... "The parents have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge"

I had to send dis as a BC to my friends cos I realise the thing about this one chance people, u can be a victim if youve never heard of them or a particular style they use.

I just want to use this medium to explain the "new" or probably old method (if u are already aware) of one chance people.

once a victim enters the car as the last passenger (3rd or 4th at d back seat), they start complaints at the back that the car is too tight, by this time, they must have passed the bustop, dey now suggest that the victim should go to the front and join the other passenger there , convincing you that he/she will soon drop along the road.
Most times, you may oblige and go to the front seat... once u enter, dey ask you to jam the door severally, driver keeps saying "that door never lock well", since ure by the door , you keep trying to lock it or press down the lock button... during this period , ur mind may not be on ur bag ,they can open ur bag and steal any valuables (phone, laptop, money, etc) Note that you may become angry at this point and say infact you want to drop or they suggest you just drop, then they drive off..

please it has happened twice to people I know esp in Abuja...

once u enter public cars, no matter the circumstances, hold ur bag tight in front of you like a baby... and watch out for flimsy stories ( dollars, tomato in the booth, tight chair) etc, whether its one chance or not, just come down quickly...

May God help us all.

inform others... thanks for your time.

Sincerely,

If we are in a sane country by now plain clothes police men and woman will be everywhere looking like commuters and be arresting this guys, it's just too much, a couple of days ago two girls where dealt with in port harcourt. They where pushed out from a moving taxi and all their belongings have been collected by gun point. I do watch BAIT CARS and I give thumbs up to the US police.

l dey feel u, joor!
Had the same experience some time in 2013.
Funny enough, the format was strikingly similar - the same Abuja o!
Twas my first ever experience of being one-chanced so foolishly, l never felt l was in any real danger!
Boarded the cab @ Kubwa '2nd' NNPC gate going to Brickcity just after and opp Kagini.
l shudder now to think l was actually full of pity for the dirty guy who the driver wanted to 'oppress'! LOL
What saved me was my total lack of interest in 'my share' of the loot.
l was even 'advising' the driver sef!
He promptly ground to a halt and practically shoved me out of the car before speeding off!
Na as l reach house na im my sister manage convince (with difficulty kwa) that l had just narrowly escaped being 'one-chanced'!

VickyRotex:
After seeing the thread about the one chance taxi driver that was caught, I’m sharing a similar experience I had in 2012.

It was on a Saturday afternoon, I boarded a taxi at AYA Abuja, my intention was to alight at Naomi plaza/park (A mini-zoo) but I wasn’t familiar with the place, sad my friends only told me it’s about #60 to #70 from AYA.

For those who had similar experience, you’ll rememeber that, it’s usually four people in the cab before you get in. i.e the driver, a passenger beside him, and two other passengers behind. Then the victim becomes the fifth/last passenger. undecided

In my own case, there was a man (in white) sitting next to the driver, a dirty looking youth (the "invisible dollar" owner), and a woman embarassed (should be in her late-30’s).

I was so comfortable seeing a woman, especially being an elderly woman, I knew I wasn’t in the midst of men alone. Little did I know that comfort would disappear in few minutes undecided

My mistake was telling the driver I don’t know the park (I don’t really see it as a mistake tho, cos I believe it’s a good thing to ask questions when you’re not clear)

The driver and his crew took advantage of that fact, and just about a minute to get to the park, they started their usual story of dollars.

The dirty guy said he wanted to alight, and told the driver to open the trunk so he could take his “Ghana must go” the driver paused and asked the boy if truly he is the owner of the bags, the boy said yes, and "Boom" shocked the whole arguement started.

(Oh before that day, I only hear of one chance, never heard the full gist from anyone, so I was still enjoying the conversation)

The driver asked how can such a young boy be going about with 100 thousand dollars, shocked ghen ghen, that’s when my eyes opened. I was like 100 thousand dollar in this car? Okay na. Bring it on. (How did the driver get to know the actual amount? I asked myself) Just when I asked myself that question, the woman asked the driver how he got to know the exact amount, then he said, its written on the bags cheesy cheesy (Kai, they were tryna sell me) angry

The boy kept begging and crying, defending himself with some fake stories, how he served his boss in kano for 10years and he wasn’t paid well, now the Boss is dead, and he entered one of his rooms, and saw 10 bags filled with dollars, shocked then he carried three of the bags cos he was in a hurry (I was like, if you were not rushing you’d have carried more? shocked undecided Greed!!! And how can you possibly carry 3 bags filled with dollars from kano, and it wasn’t noticed by anyone? All this questions in my mind tho lipsrsealed )

The driver still kept saying no, that he has to take him to the police station, all this while I was still mute lipsrsealed and my own concern was for him to tell me when we get to the park.

Then the woman started begging saying she has a son like him at home and wouldn’t pray for such a boy to go to jail, the man at the front was still quiet and dint even interfere, he was just looking at his watch. The driver finally said, since the woman has begged, then maybe we should go to a place(his mechanic’s place) to share the money huhh shocked shocked That’s when I knew it was real now, and not an illusion.

I couldn’t pick my calls, I was scared. angry The driver asked everyone in the car, and they all said they were comfortable with the sharing. They already started discussing who takes the larger part, as the driver kept driving. Then he asked why I haven’t said anything, I was like (oh, I’m not concentrating on their discussion, that I just want to get to the park cos I got people waiting for me) he said okay, that we were almost there (we already passed the place ooo, embarassed and I dint know) but that shey I’ll still follow them to have a share ba? I said No. He asked why? I dint reply.

It dawned on me, that we’ve gone too far for such a journey to be #70 Naira like my friends told me. I started crying like a baby inwardly, cry but I was as bold as a giant wink outwardly. I told the driver to stop, he asked why, I said I’m not going to the park again, that it’s too far, and I needed to get back home on time. He said he’s not going to stop that he’s suspecting I'm an SSS agent and I might arrest them for knowing their plans about sharing the money. (Even if I’m an SSS agent/police, how can I arrest all of you at same time *in my mind*).

I was calm, dint wanna raise my voice, since I already knew what they were capable of doing. I just kept saying I’m not ready to share any dollar, cry (I could hear my heart beat, but I was still bold)

All of a sudden the driver stopped, he was about asking me a question ("You mean sey you no wan go share this money"?) as I opened the door, and stepped out. He asked for his money and I gave him 100Naira, (I wasn't bothered about the change), he said No, it’s #250, shocked that we already passed Naomi park since. (Something I already knew)

I didn’t argue, I gave him another #100. Walked away, and the quiet devil at the front started talking and cursing his entire generation (not mine) the woman also joined. The driver called me all sort of names, and said “Na God save you” then zoomed off. (I said before nko, Only God could save me na)

I was on the lonely road, (still afraid, and looking right, left, front and back at same time undecided ) I crossed to the other lane, and a cab stopped, he didn’t even ask what I was doing there, he just said “You don enter their hand abi”? I was surprised.

He offered to help me back to the park and while we were going he was gisting me about those people, saying when you insist on sharing the money with them, they either take you to a quiet place and rob you of everything you’ve got/unclad you, or they use someone for money rituals. He said they usually do the latter. And that they make use of charm/juju. Hmmmm angry

I got to the Park safe, tho was still in shock, I thanked the driver and alighted. He didn’t even collect a dime. God bless him wherever he is. cool smiley

Oh, if I was greedy and decided to go with them to see/share their invisible dollars probably I won’t be here sharing this.

A friend told me, even if she feels the dollar is not there, she’d still go with them to be 100% sure. shocked Hmmmm okay

Nairalanders, One chance is real. It's a day I can't forget too easily. I kept wondering what would have happened to me if the driver didn't stop or if their juju had worked.

I hope someone learns from this. Be careful and vigilant. I learnt they've got new strategies they use to get at their victims, but I pray they don't succeed as much as they try to.

In all, I give thanks to God!!! cheesy smiley
