INEC'S introduction of an electronic device, the Card Reader in this year's general elections to boost the credibility and to curtail electoral malpractices in our elections, is a waste of funds and a decision reached in a hurry. During the just conducted elections, the device seems not to have fulfilled alot. In my Polling Unit, 471 voters were accredited, and only 36 were verified in the Presidential and National Assembly elections also, in the Gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections, 486 were accredited and only 86 were verified and they all voted after another time consuming verification from the Voters Register. Also, the INEC official whose duty it is to operate did not master the device. After wasting so much time on the queue, before technical support assistant was called in to help in both occasions. Sadly, there were also reports of snatching of ballot papers in some areas whose results have been authenticated and released. What do you think? How has the Card Reader helped in the fight against electoral malpractices in the just conducted elections?
