Just curious, because it seems ethnicity is more important with Africans.

Non Africans do not understand the concept of ethnicity. Some think Africa is a country. African" is what most people out there know and understand. But tribalism exists even among immigrants who will tend to organize themselves around their ethnicity.

when you name ur country and get asked where it is, more than once, you learn to not bother....

most times i just say africa and leave it at that.
only when the person engages me further and displays geographical intelligence do i say nigeria.
