Pregnant woman stabs husband in stomach

By Yemi Dalemo, Ijebu Ode

A 26-year-old pregnant    woman, Tosin Sodiq, on Wednesday night stabbed her husband in the stomach for his alleged refusal to settle a dispute between two of their neighbours, one of which had a disagreement with her.

The incident occurred at 23, Ososha Street, off Olisa Street in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

Our correspondent learnt on Thursday morning that the woman left her husband when she saw his intestines coming out amidst a pool of blood.

An elderly man who was the only man at home during the scuffle, also sustained a deep cut in his hand while attempting to collect the knife from the woman.

When the woman saw the extent of damage she had caused to her husband, Tajudeen, she reportedly fled from the house.

Sympathisers who later came to the scene rushed the man to Olu-Ola Hospital in Ijebu Ode.

When it was discovered at the hospital that there was no money to take care of the immediate treatment of Tajudeen, the sympathisers took to the streets, soliciting financial assistance from passers-by.

Dr. Seun Osiyale, who later attended to the victim, confirmed that an altercation between the victim and his wife while trying to reach an agreement resulted in the crisis.

He said the several entry points of the knife on the man's stomach forced his intestines out.

The 28-year-old victim was in agony when our correspondent visited him at the hospital for comments.

The Police Area Commander in Ijebu Ode, Mr. Oyedokun Omolodun, confirmed the incident but said the police could not arrest the culprit as the case was reported at Igbeba Police Station several hours after the crime was committed

Omolodun said the woman had since disappeared having realised the gravity of her offence.

The Area Commander, however, urged residents to furnish the police with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrator of the crime.
