Please I need clarity on something.
So i submitted hubby's application last month. With the new timeline for 52wks i.e. 11 months, vis a vis the validity of a written authorization being 3 months, I am wondering if to send the email to IRCC for one or not? I have read in previous posts that the written authorization helps the SOWP application move faster as sometimes they dont even treat your file until the request comes in. But if that is approved for 3 months and SOWP hasnt come out by then (which most likely it wont have given this 52 weeks timeline), what happens then? The written authorization would then expire? Please advise on what to do. Apply for written authorization now or wait for a few more weeks?
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Anndav: 5:36am On Apr 14
Wait for few weeks and apply
One thing am sure of is that dis crazy processing time will soon change back to normal. Which was always around 16 weeks before
Processing time has reduced to 44 weks

Write that letter and send it ASAP. Without the letter, they will do nothing about your application!!. They requested you write the letter to notify them that you are travel restriction exempt.

Good evening everyone . Please I really seek for the information concerning this. My time line is as follows
I applied for SOWP June 2020
Medicals passed September 2020 ( Though I did it in March 2020)
Work permit approved December
I was just checking my CIC account and I saw a document status showing "your document is invalid" , despite having approved work permit and documents have not yet expired. Was planning of goin in few weeks time.
Please what is the meaning and implications invalid document in the document status? No mail was sent and no correspondent except the one that was sent to tell me my work permit was approved. Is there steps i should take?

Hunnn, is it LMIA route
Maybe one of the documents submitted is no longer valid due to expiration
Or it has pass it's validity
But I don't think it affects ur visa
And is ur employer still operating the business if it is employer specific LMIA
To clear the air you can write ur employer
And if it's spousal open work permit then
iraisee a web form about your enquiry
All is well, just Know if it's a big issue you would have received there mail it's just a misinterpretation on ur part
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Leoadexy: 5:50pm On Apr 18
Thanks for your response and assurance. It is Spouse open work permit. I dont know if I should raise a web form of enquiry as you suggested or hope there is nothing to it
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Anndav: 7:14pm On Apr 18
If I were you I would move on with my plans since I did not receive anything mail to contradict the previous approval
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Leoadexy: 7:55pm On Apr 18
Okay. Thanks so much
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Meeny123: 4:09am On Apr 19
Hello guys, I thought to chip this in. If your SOWP is approved, you do not need an authorisation letter. Students, open work permits are among people who can travel to Canada. I arrived at the end of March without an authorisation letter. My Wife is the student, I have an open work permit.
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Leoadexy: 1:29pm On Apr 19
Wow! Thanks for this information, I thought I still need authorization letter even though I presently have one but its almost 3 months which is making me rush to beat the deadline. I like to ask if Airlines in Nigeria will still bother you with return ticket despite the SOWP. I want to be sure if I wont be delayed at the Airport to buy return ticket as they usually do for visitors visa. I will appreciate your response
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Meeny123: 4:44pm On Apr 19
No. The airlines won’t ask for a return ticket for work permits and international students. Even you can not be sure of your return date. So don’t bother about a return ticket. They may however ask for your employment letter. I showed them my employment letter in Nigeria, and told them I have an open work permit in Canada which allows me to accept any job.

Meeny123:Congratulations to you sir.
Please I have a question, i have an enrollment date of may 2022, and i love adding my fiancee to my application. We will be probably getting married in Jan next year. But waiting till then to start visa application might be late considering the 20weeks processing time.
The question is, if I start application as a single person probably in October this year, can i still add her when we get married in January??
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by hazzaman: 10:59pm On Apr 19
Does the visa prioritisation mail for spousal open work permit as it works for visit visa?
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Meeny123: 5:38am On Apr 20
I would advice that you start the application as a married person. You can do a court wedding before you start your own application. You will then fill the form stating you are married. You will include your spouses’ name and marriage certificate in the application. It’s safer and uncomplicated that way.
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by dayjeee(m): 6:06am On Apr 20
Meeny123:thank you, just thinking there are other safer options i can explore aside court marriage .
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Upeople: 10:10am On Apr 20
Raise a web form or contact ircc to see if they would extend your medical.
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Upeople: 10:17am On Apr 20
Your medical has expired. Medicals are valid for one year, you did yours in March 2020, so it expired March 2021. You have to do fresh medical or contact ircc if they extended the previous one.
They won’t allow you to board your flight or enter canada till you sort it out
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Upeople: 10:19am On Apr 20
Wrong !! He can’t board his flight with invalid documents ( expired medical)
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Upeople: 10:35am On Apr 20
To answer your question you cannot add ur spouse to your study permit application but you can notify ircc of the change in your marital status.
Note that ur spouse can’t travel with you to canada on your study visa, you have to do a separate SOWP application for her
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Anndav: 10:53am On Apr 20
I don't understand are you saying after visa approval ur IRCC medical request must still be valid at the point of entrance?
Because I know employer specific work permit holder who traveled one year after visa approval
Because that was when dere employee quested for them ( covid wahala)
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Upeople: 11:52am On Apr 20
Your medical must be valid at the time you enter canada. Ircc can extend the validity at their discretion.
Sometimes, ircc automatically extend medical validity for some people
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Anndav: 1:13pm On Apr 20
Wao thanks for the info.... that is an added knowledge
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by dayjeee(m): 6:14pm On Apr 20
Upeople:oh thank you for this. How long does it take to process spousal work permit?
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Meeny123: 10:18pm On Apr 20
On the contrary, you can add in your application that you are married and include your spouses’ name. It doesn’t mean you won’t apply separately for him or her (SOWP). This is straightforward and better than notifying IRCC later about a change of marital status. What you should avoid saying is that you’re travelling together to stand a better chance of approval. The spouse would be your tie to Nigeria. Something to make you return to Nigeria. You can always say you’re married if you’re married. Just provide the name of the spouse in the application, then apply for him or her when your study permit has been approved.
Also, some people apply for study permit and SOWP at the same time. It’s a bit risky and I wouldn’t advice it. But some people have been approved this way.
My SOWP was approved with my wife’s study approval letter, not even study permit. I applied immediately she was approved and we waited until my SOWP was approved after three months. My wife and I travelled together. So people should ask questions and use the best possible option. Remember that applications are never the same. What worked for A may not work for B. And PRAY. Na God dey do these things las las. No be power nor might.
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Upeople: 2:47am On Apr 21
You should at least read & understand the guy’s question before providing answer. The guy wants to submit his application around Oct 2021 but their marriage is in January 2022. By the time they get married, ircc would have started processing his application, all he can do is to inform ircc of his marital status.
BTW, your argument isn’t valid. Study permit application is never a joint application. When applicant include their spouse information in their study permit application it doesn’t mean the spouse has been added to the application. The application is for one person (the student). A student that wants to travel with his/her family will have to do study permit, SOWP for the spouse & visit visa for the kids (depends on how old they are )
Permanent resident application you can add your spouse & kids in one application.
There is a difference between “adding someone to an application” and “including a family member information in an application”

Semantics. Everything you typed here is exactly what I typed/explained earlier. Read again. This time, slowly. Cheers.

Thank you for responding to this issue. What is your advice concerning this. I have already booked flight hoping to travel in about 2 weeks time. I don't mind another medicals. Will they able to upload results and ircc effect changes in the short time? Or is evidence of taking the medicals will be enough to show them at Airport or Portal of Entry? I have raised aweb form of enquiry but I don't know if there a other ways to communicate effectively with them. I will appreciate your suggestions
