Conduct Bureau has never prosecuted anyone since its establishment. Does it mean no corrupt politician has acquired properties with looted money? NO. Scrap the bureau, it's utterly useless! |

richeso: Yes he did. All public officials above a certain rank must declare their assets to the code of conduct bureau. That's why Femi Fani Kayode told the journalists to get Obasanjo's declaration from the bureau. Failure to declare your assets is a crime and an official who fails to declare his assets or makes a false declaration, can be prosecuted at the Code Of Conduct Tribunal (that's one of the reasons that Tinubu was brought before the tribunal, because it was alleged that he had an overseas bank account that he did not declare. It's also illegal for public officials to have overseas bank accounts http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/articles/omoyele-sowore/tinubu-14-governors-to-appear-before-code-of-conduct-tribunal.html and http://saharareporters.com/photos/photonews-former-lagos-governor-bola-tinubu-arraigned-code-conduct-tribunal ). The problem is that the public official must declare his assets to the bureau, but he doesn't have to declare it publicly. I remember that Chief Gani Fawehinmi tried to force President Babangida to declare his assets publicly, but he didn't succeed. The only president that has publicly declared his assets is President Yar'Adua. I wish Gani was alive. I'm sure that he would have used the Freedom of Information Act to force the Bureau to publish the assets declaration of all heads of state from 1979 to date.
