EFCC recovers N5 billion from suspected oil subsidy thieves
August 18, 2014

The EFCC says investigation and prosecution of fuel subsidy cases had not been easy but that it was resolute to bring the cases to logical conclusion
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC] has so far recovered about N5billion from persons and organisations indicted in the fuel subsidy scam.

The agency’s Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, made this disclosure in Abuja on Wednesday during a town hall meeting on Fuel Subsidy organised by Africa Network of Economic and Environment Justice, ANEEJ, in collaboration with Justice for All, J4A.
According to Mr. Uwujaren, the EFCC is currently prosecuting 13 different oil subsidy cases, while investigations are on to bring other indicted persons or companies to justice.

“Investigation and prosecution of fuel subsidy cases have not been too easy for us but we are resolute in our determination to ensure that we push all those cases to logical conclusion,” he said.

Does the law require EFCC to obtain clearance from the President before performing their official duties? Yet, they collect huge salaries regularly.

Under Jonathan, why did they kill the cases? - because Jona tolerated corruption. He loved, romanced and cherished it.

My guess is that GEJ was somehow blackmailed to soft-pedal. He knew the consequences of an affront on this powerful cabal. See for instance what is happening to fuel supply now simply because of the uncertainty on whether the status quo would be maintained. GEJ should have simply warned and prepared Nigerians for the inconveniences, and gone ahead to confront the cabal while doing everything to manage the situation. But political considerations wouldn't allow such. This is what you get when you allow thieves and dubious people who are not adding any real value to become more powerful than the state.

Niyi said it and they pounced on him. The opposition said it and they pounced on them. Now the anti corruption body has said it themselves. Let's see how Jonathanians respond to this. Perhaps they would refer us to TI index. smiley

Ironically if this same TI grossly indicted GEJ's government these same hookers will call them all the dead names in this world saying they have been enlisted by the APC. Notice no GMB supporter have cast any doubts on the integrity of TI. I told one of them yesterday you can twist all the logic and rewrite history as you like but the truth and reality can never be impeached. The difference between GEJ and Abacha is that the latter was very greedy in corruption while the former in the person of GEJ is very gracious in it. He steals and open the till for anyone interested to come loot his own thereby making his tenure the most corrupt in world history. Imelda and Ferdinand Marcos must be very green with envy wherever they are.

[The source said, “It is true that some of the suspects are now being invited. But we never stopped investigations. Our hands had only been tied because of the President’s disposition. We have to get approval from him before we can investigate or prosecute the suspects.

“But the approval was not forthcoming. We are hoping that things will start changing when the new government is inaugurated and that is why we are stepping up our investigations.”
]

Jokers. You need approval to do your constitutional duties.

Did you read the part that says they needed the president approval which was not forthcoming?

GEJ is the most corrupt president in Nigeria's history. Happy we sent him packing.

if the approval wasn't coming......
why didn't the arrow head resign..... at least to show that he wasn't allow the free hands to carryout his duties and protect the integrity we had known with him during his time with Ribadu

Ahmadu Ali & many PDP big-wigs should start getting ready 4 Kirikiri. d subsidy bazaar took a turn 4 d worse when Ahmadu Ali became chairman of PPPRA.
Prior to Ali's appointment in 2009 there were just 49 importers. In order to accommodate PDP fronts, cronies, govt sponsors & scions of party chieftains, Ahmadu Ali single-handedly raised d number frm 49 importers to 140 between 2009 & 2011 & d subsidy payment ballooned frm N421.5b in 2009 to 2.19 trillion in 2011. One of those arraigned by EFCC in d subsidy scam was his son, Mamman Nasir Ali who runs Nasaman Oil Services. Another is Mahmud Tukur, who runs Eterna Oil and Gas Plc & is d son of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, former PDP chairman.

when president Obama said that Africa does not need strong men but strong institutions,
some people though it was a joke. until we build strong and independent institutions,
fighting corruption and social inequality will always be a mirage.

Thanks.

I imagine you know the difference between hear-say by unnamed sources and official communication from the agency.
