Jonathan’s Legacies To Nigeria by brodalikeme(m): 12:49pm On May 28, 2015
In a few hours from now, Goodluck Jonathan will leave the reins of power for his fishing and palm wine business in Otueke, this transition is one that we are all eager to experience. The outgoing administration represents an age we are so anxious to forget and the incoming one, a future we earnestly want to embrace. A careful reflection on the hat-wearing fisher man’s administration throws up his priceless legacies to Nigerians.
1) POWER HAS RETURNED TO THE MASSES. With the sudden defeat of GEJ, the Nigerian masses finally broke the power of incumbency and buying of votes. In the future the political class will know that all the organs of government, especially the treasury cannot save an incompetent leader from being voted out of office.
2) OUR VOICE WILL BE HEARD, LOUD AND CLEAR. GEJ was criticized mercilessly. (I pity for dey man plenty times sef) The office of the president lost the cult-like secrecy that had characterised previous administration, all their actions and inactions we scrutinised and criticised not in murmurs but in loud voices. These voices will be very useful in the near future in boldly calling and holding public office holders accountable.
If we the masses of our great country can build on these platforms presented to us, Nigerian will become a country we will all be proud again. Let us forget about the illusion of the politicians, power indeed lies with the people; we should all rise to our civic duty. Never again, will we have it this bad. Long live Nigeria! Happy Democracy day in advance
