Miracy, at the bolded, you said "the only" how about government intervention and private bodies donation to schools??
Government intervention isn't enough it can only serve as an added advantage.

@miracy you said because of new intakes year in year out. that there is a must for the school to increase the fees. then what now happens to the acceptance fees they pay. what then happens to the school fees they pay. Do you mean that these alone will not be okay for the school. Then why increase when the school authority can maximize all this money paid for the betterment of the students
grin How much do they pay as acceptance fee?? Oau students pay the sum of just #20000for acceptance fee and 2090 for accommodation fee... what a ridiculous price right?? Still we're all clamoring for the best education, best hotels and good electricity... . How feasible can that be since our government doesn't even have enough to cater for the education sector??
May i remind you that federal universities don't even pay tuition fee....

Are you advocating that we take a socialistic approach to education?

Amongst the top 10 universities in the world, can you point out any of them whose fees are tokens like that of Nigerian Universities?

Institutions like Oxford, despite millions of dollars of research grants from the private sector, still charge thousands of dollars as fees.

And the trend shows that the top schools actually charge more.. Wouldn't you wanna see Nigerian Universities in such position?

Miracy,

1. half baked graduates can never be in all university, while many a student now come to university to earn a certificate, many are studying courses they are not meant to study. i can not apply for civil engr and you give me agric engr, yet you expect me to study it with the same passion i would have studied civil with.

2. we going to school is just the orientation that if you do not go to school, you would not succeed. Mind you, Razaq Okoya, Nigeria's billionaire never went to school, even Bill Gates was a drop out.

3. we have unarguably low standard of education

Like i said earlier and you buttressed it, what about private companies. Have you not heard that Chevron donated Medical equipments to DELSUTH, what about MTN e-library in UNILAG, PTDF built a new Chemical engineering department in my school and am sure all these companies are not government owned
Yes that's very good of them but i still stand to say all those donations only serve as suppliments. . . Our hostels are nothing to write home about... laboratory are not well-equipped, health care centers too shouldn't be left out, among other things. ... Who should cater for all that??

Error! How can OAU of all schools support increase in tuition fee. The great Ife is known for fighting against N10 increment in fee.

Wondering if they will have much points to win.

All the best!

@barackodam
You're comparing the past graduates who graduated a long time ago with the present ... Don't you think comparing our past with the present is a fallacy??
Do you know the situation of our present economy?? Our naira is depreciation daily.
You asking the government to keep funding every aspect of the economy is more like you saying that the government should start taking the responsibility of each individual in the country to have a better life. How feasible is that??

with everything you said. I am meant to believe that every newly admitted student in your school pays nothing less than 40,000 naira for that session multiply it by over 6000 students it will give you 240,000,000 naira. for a year. you mean this will not be enough for proper developement in the school for just a year? not even with the addition of returning students

I don't have any question but let me make my comments.

I must confess I'm not very impressed with the presentation of the 3 debaters. Too many unpardonable grammatical errors, concord mismatch. I believe you all should take time to edit your posts well next time. If this was an award, I would have advised the organisers to keep the award and not declare winner. However, this being a multi-stage competition, a winner must emerge. That is the reason I will send the scores to the coordinators.

Of course there are lotta half baked graduates out there... many are studying the courses they are not meant to study??.. .. whose fault .. .. Is the increase of tuition fees in universities to be blamed ? ??

2)I beg to differ... If we all that is school have that kinda orientation, im sure we all will go into vocational works.. ... Many of us go to school in order to be educated and well oriented not for succeeding sake

3)why?? Because of low funding which is as a result of low generation of income. .. If we don't pay tuition fees, how can we generate enough income to fund our universities??

This is very didactive indeed! Kudos to the initiative

Point of correction:
Half baked graduates should not be blamed on tuition fees. Private Universities students pay exorbitant fees and yet majority are dullards

I've got a quesion for @miracy :
you're ardent on the fact that tuition fees should be increased neglecting the low standard of living of over half of the population.
How do you expect the common man or self sustaining youth to meet up with sudden increment?
Or should only the rich acquire knowledge?
Education is a right and not a privilege!

Oau students started paying that high after the increase last year. .. Our fees were ridiculously cheap.
I put it to you that since the increase of the school fees, more projects have been embarked upon, even our newly admitted freshers are being given the best orientation program ever smiley
