I have a different hypothesis. We have been conditioned, by society, to value marriage, and rightly so, I might add. I mean, what, exactly, do men gain from marriage? We toil till our last for the wives and children. In a situation where the man, the wife and the child are in danger with the reality that only two of the three could survive, who dies, and why?
