But then, this has more to do with logic, than probability. If D was actually playing cards alone, I believe it will be stated so as to ascertain another point of concentration. And if it was stated, then the puzzle will be filled with assumption. People coming up with different opinions.

And when you examine it, you'll notice that every other person can do the things alone. So why do you think D's act is questionable? And that is why we can't just sit and assume what H was doing.

In d alphabets ,H comes before I, but in the puzzle it's MISSING.

lol. Everybody knows that the Alphabet H is supposed to come before I. And everyone knows that H is missing as an alphabet there. That obviously is the fisrt speculation.

But the question says what is H "Doing" not "Where" is H. How can there be 9 people in the house, and H(9th person) is missing?

Besides, its not about alphabet now, its about people. You and I know that those alphabets were just used to replace names.

Need I say that the original puzzle was about D playing chess. But the Op changed it to playing cards. Cool. Now who's playing chess with D? if we wanna base our speculations on alphabets rather than subjects.

I think this has to do more with the content, than alphabet representation.

I think your explanation is flawed in the sense. that it could have been a known fact overtime that the house accommodates 9 children, but at this particular point in time - visitation, a child is not in the house.
Furthermore, the question was not "what is He DOING, of course anyone missing was not expected to do/be doing something

It's flexible. I gave supporting ideas why I think the answer shouldnt be "H" is missing rather H is playing cards.
