Today would have been the late, great Tupac Shakur’s 44th birthday. Had he not been
gunned down at the age of 25, by now he
would likely have been one of hip-hop’s
elder millionaires, a la Jay-Z or Dr. Dre. But his
early passing, morbidly, means a legacy
always tinged with the “what-if.” What if he
had been around to continue making (non-
posthumous) new albums? What if he had
survived long enough to patch the west
coast/east coast divide?
If not for a fateful night on September 13,
1996, today the hip hop world would no
doubt be celebrating the 44th birthday of
venerable rapper, poet and actor Tupac
“2Pac” Shakur. Although his death shook
the globe, his legacy and towering influence
still permeates through the entire span of
hip hop music and culture to this very day.
2pac was born on June 16, 1971 in New York City.Although 2Pac has been gone long
physically, his influences are still felt to this
day.Happy Birthday and Rest In Peace to Tupac
