GOVERNMENT OF IMO STATE
PRESS RELEASE

SUBJECT: HON EMEKA IHEDIOHA SHOULD STOP DISTURBING THE PEACE OF THE STATE & ALSO STOP INSULTING THE GOVERNOR

We have read media reports credited to Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, the PDP governorship candidate in the state and the Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in which he was quoted to have asked the governor to return all the state funds he “stole” since 2011.

Hon. Ihedioha who spoke through one of his aides, Mr. Chibuike Onyeukwu also talked about the governor’s properties or what he called multi-billion naira private estate sited at sipbat, Amakohia, Owerri among other issues, and abused the governor with ease.

Let us reply Hon. Ihedioha by first and foremost appeal to him to give the peace of the state a chance. He should stop disturbing the peace of the state. We have heard about those inciting certain groups in the state to cause trouble but we have chosen to remain calm.

Hon. Ihedioha is not the only Imo man or the only Nigerian who ran the governorship election and lost. Imo State can not stop existing because he failed election. He should face his case at the election petition tribunal like other candidates in other states and stop talking as if he is still on election campaigns.

He should also stop insulting the governor as if he derives pleasure from it. He had run for the governorship to be elected governor, and he has failed or refused to respect the governor on seat and the office. It is also unfortunate that a man who had been in the House of Representatives for twelve years and Deputy – Speaker of the same House for four years, and who is expected to know the efficacy of respecting political office like that of governor would be taking delight in abusing his governor without provocation.

Hon. Ihedioha’s party, PDP governed the state for twelve years, and could not renovate one school and Imo people could not accuse them of stealing the state funds, and he has the audacity to accuse a man who had done in four years what his party PDP could not do in twelve years of stealing state fund.

Even if Governor Okorocha had undertaken the free education programme only, he would have also been applauded, talk more when he has almost two thousand projects scattered all over the states to his credits, including roads project, infrastructure, renovation of schools, the 305 upstair school buildings, and so on.

Let Hon. Ihedioha list what the PDP government in the state achieved in twelve years with the state funds and let Governor Okorocha list all he has achieved for Imo people in four years and let us know those who would be accused of stealing the state’s funds. Let Hon. Ihedioha also disclose what he collected for constituency projects for twelve years he was in the House of Representatives and what he achieved with the billions since whoever wants to go to equity must do so with clean hand.

It is also needful at this point to let Hon. Ihedioha know that there is no property owned by the Governor in Owerri which he didn’t acquire several years before becoming governor including the spibat he mentioned. For his information, the governor bought the property from an Mbaise businessman based in Port-Harcourt several years before becoming governor. We challenge Hon. Ihedioha to mention any property owned by Governor Okorocha in the state which he didn’t have years before becoming governor.

Against the backdrop of all these, we also want to challenge Hon. Ihedioha to list any property he has anywhere including the state, which he acquired before his going to the House of Representatives, so that Imo people can take off from there.

We want to end this reaction by appealing to Hon. Ihedioha to put an end to these distractions and pursue his tribunal matter and we wouldn’t like to talk about all the boastings and claims. We have always trusted and always believed God, and we shall continue to do so.

Does it not amount to act of wickedness for somebody to accuse the state governor of stealing funds with the level of developmental projects in the state even when all the states in the country have been lamenting as a result of the economic or financial mess the PDP government had dragged this country into.

By the time the records of sure-p, River Basin Authority, NDDC and so on are looked into in the state, Imo people will know those who have actually stolen their money. Governor Okorocha does not need undue distraction now.
