Some of us are not cut out for the job. To have survived up to final year in medicine means that you are more intelligent than the average lot. I know a lot like him now in my class. But to have just given up 2 weeks before the final MBBS smacks of a bad decision. He should have weathered it out and then gone for the course of his choice.
I know some people in my class who say they wont practice after graduation, like Kelvin who says he is going to play professional football.
I am two weeks from my own final exams, come 24th July by his grace, I would be a certified doctor.
Looks like u ar a UI med student

Not necessarily. A certificate that doesn't have to be a degree will allow you break through

Mass comms or whatever ain't no specialist course so i'm failing to see how getting a degree would help him climb the career ladder
It's his passion and there's nothing wrong in wanting to pursue a degree in it especially if he feels it will help his career better. You were complaining about his age, he might as well get a degree to help him out. No one wants to employ an older person into the Mass Communication field especially if he has no degree. He should at least let them know where some of that time went to (in relation to the career).

Quit that please! You absolutely don't know him and it'll be most unfair to judge him. He's one of the most intelligent young guys I've ever met all my life. Decent, religious and very broad. He'll take you on any topic.

I personally know him as his elder sister was my classmate in the Uni. The story didn't even include that his first attempt was botched as he got Geology as a compensatory gesture from the school. He led his class that first year. I actually overheard him defining cancer to a year one medical student and was like, "Mansoor, I think, you study geology?". His sociological traits have always pointed to this direction - vocal, confident and good diction.

Medicine left a vacuum in the poor guy that never got filled, despite being a voracious reader. Ismaila was also a popular writer on campus. He never wanted to hurt his dad, he finally had to!

I wish him good luck in his new endeavour.

God help you if you are thrown in departments like geology, chemistry and bio-chemistry in OAU.
If you are damn serious, you will scale through.Leave courses and schools out of this, they are just lame excuses.

I corroborate your view on no course is difficult.Just brace up to the challenges of the course one is studying that's all.Even if you have sadists as lecturers, with hardwork coupled with God's grace, you must scale through.

Alfa esin, as we use to call him then because if u asked him y he didn't come for classes he would reply "ESIN NI".We were classmate in 500L and d last time we saw was in Pepsi a popular cafeteria in old UITH, I was preparing for youth service then. He told me he was not in medical sch again for d reason posted, I tried so hard that day to press him to write d exam because d ogas actually wanted to pass him come what may, buh he was not yielding. He claimed if he wrote d exam, he would also b lured to do house job and his dreams could b affected.what he was well known for in med sch. then was big those vocabularies and long list of questions asked after lectures.it is fun remembering those nice times. I wish u best of luck as a prospective journalist though would ave prepared u become a medical jounalist . Gudluck to all TRAILBLAZERS (class of 2010)

plz parents should stop pushing their kids to tread a path they're not in love with...it's something called passion.
first,my dad wanted to be the father of the first catholic priest in the family but i disappointed him at the last hour,i wasn't gonna displease myself to please him and others cause i was gonna deal with the challenges myself afterwards...soon,i was studying medicine cus of my dad again and family pressure too, still my stubborn head won cheesy

now i'm studying engineering,it's challenging than i thought but i love it and i'm not gonna quit cus i chose it myself and i'm doing it for none but mesmiley

"Afa èsìn", as he was called back then was an orator. One of our preachers in school then. He decided to quit and did so. Though I have no doubt he will excel in his preferred course, his decision is one of the wonders I always ponder.

No ooo, he would pass it, because that was his last chance, and he was very popular in school....

But being a doctor is not just by having the certificate or whatever.....

It entails alot of things: commitment, discipline, respect for the medical elders, updating yourself always, in fact the medical career is killing....

Sometimes I also ask myself why I ventured into this stuff in the first place.....
hmmmm u wanna discourage me oooo, #medaspirant

... he should have written the final exam, obtained his certificate as a doctor and then proceeded to study whatever he wished to study.

That way not only would he actualise his dream, that would probably make him the first doctor-journalist.
Exactly my thought. This reminds me of a son of one of the States chief judge. His father insisted he must study law to take after him against the wish of the son who wanted to study political sciene. The son 'obediently' applied for law, got admitted and later went to law school and graduated as a Lawyer. Immediately after his graduation he put applied again into the university, this time around he went for his desired course which was political science. Today, he has two first degree certificates to his credit. A lawyer and a political scientist. He satisfied his father and at the same time fulfilling his dreams.
