About 40 out-gone Batch ‘A’ corps members deployed to the FCT for their one-year mandatory service are to face disciplinary actions over various offenses committed in the course of the programme.

The FCT coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Olanipekun Alao, who revealed this at the passing out ceremony of the corps members at the Kubwa orientation camp, noted that part of the sanctions would include extension of their service year.

“Those who were mischievous by not adhering to the laid down rules of the scheme, including those who were not consistent in their places of primary assignment, as well as those who outrightly absconded from service would be sanctioned,” he stated.

He, however, disclosed that a total number of 52 corps members were honoured with meritorious awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions towards the development of their host communities and that of the FCT in general.

The coordinator advised them to be worthy ambassadors of the scheme even after their passing out from service, saying it would be shameful for them to display actions inimical to the teachings and skills they acquired during the service.

“Once you are an NYSC member, you are a corps member for life. You are now a bonifide member of the NYSC Alumni. We therefore urge you to represent the good qualities of the NYSC anywhere you are,” he added.

While enjoining them not to allow the lessons of the scheme, including that of unity, love and justice to wane away, Alao stressed that the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme would become more relevant after their service year.

One of the awardees, Etienying Akpanusong, described the award as a motivating factor towards taking greater responsibilities in the future.
About 4,700 corps members were presented with their discharge certificates during the occasion.
