The problem with getting licensed to practice in Canada is that

1.You have to pass the Canadian licensing exam

2.You have to pass the provincial Licensing exams

3.Both steps take years.

4.Even if you pass....a Canadian trained doctor will still be preferred to you.

The problem is not restricted to Nigerians....other countries are affected.

That's why if you want to practice medicine in Canada....it is better you go to medical school in Canada...and get a Canadian qualification.

And it is not just medicine.

(Personal experience....I once considered going to Canada....and it sounded like a good idea...until I read the story of an Iranian who had taken 13 years to achieve all the steps...and STILL hadn't gotten employed!)

The fake was not in the clinical side. He was working in health care administrative duties....which you do not need to be a doctor to work in.

And I do not know why you people keep on calling us Nigerian doctors fakes when most of the time we are hampered by lack of equipment, poor quality of service and even lack of funding for training programmes abroad...which might help us improve.

Then you have the badly funded universities, and lack of sufficient lecturers...especially preclincal side.

Nigerian doctors are doing a good job despite the limitations we work with.

(I speak as someone who has worked in both govt and now private sector hospitals at rural and urban level)
