GogetterMD thank you so much for your input and advise

Caracta thank you also for answering the questions

GogetterMD the problem is funds and also people who are able to cordinate whatever is decided to help this little boy.

This is why It will be good if TEHN are able to assist this little boy

To be honest, when I was first told of this little boy, I was only thinking of getting him into a good school and payment of fees and any necesary specialist equipment that he may need.
My understanding was that the damage was permanent, however as you advised, it may still be in the boys best interest to obtain another medical opinion. It can only get better and no worse than it already is.

I am appealing for people to please assist this boy in any way possible.

Why not send TeHN a PM directly?
Truth is that it's a 50-50 situation. If the damage has been done already, arising from the complications of the defacto primary disease, or from complications of initial surgery, then there's little that can be done. However, there's is still a good chance that both eyes can be salvaged by corrective surgery, resulting in improved visual acquity, provided the optic nerve is not damaged.
But whichever or whatever the outcome, there's is Pacelli special school for the visually impaired in surulere, but getting entry into the school is usually difficult, cause such special schools are very few around.
Just be prepared for the worst case scenario

As it is, someone suggested GH Marina. We need medical reports to tell us Tomiwa can see again.

Please help as much as you can.

Yes, you have your own needs too. You need someone. Tomiwa needs you. Plant a seed. Let it be said of you, that you took a blind boy off the street.

Don't do nothing when you could have done something.

Thanks for bringing this case to light. God bless you.

Please, how can I help financially?

Has medical intervention been totally ruled out? If not, what are his options?

What about taking him to a special school for the blind? What's the cost implications.

Honestly, I don't know if it matters too much now getting extensive history from you regarding his birth.

First, can we verify that he even had total normal vision as a child ?. Were there properly documented vision tests at birth?

My better educated guess is that he had some form of congenital blindness (possibly cataracts) or infectious (from mothers' infection in the uterus).

His blindness could have been prevented if the caregivers had sought and received timely AND appropriate eye professional and procedure.

Now, what is left is for this young boy to seek eye care from a very credible eye professional. And additionally, get him some help adjusting to his world without vision. Though, it wouldn't be too much problem, since he is quite young.

My prayers are with the family and this precious boy. I wish them well.

Regards.

Caracta, really nice of you to visit the boy and his family. God bless you. You will experience divine favour at all times when you least expect it in Jesus name, Amen.

Tearoses, I just had time to read the thread properly.

I think the first step is getting the boy to a hospital/experienced opthamologist.

Metro eye clinic, Lagos is very good. They've got experienced opthamologists, opticans, consultants, etc. I can speak for them as I come from a family with hereditary glaucoma/cataract and it's been successfully managed by them. No surgeries - but quarterly eye tests/checks, drugs, etc which has managed the condition successfully for years and my affected family members all live perfectly normal lives.

Unfortunately, I'm not in Lagos but if you can get someone to take the boy there at least for them to see him and give a diagnosis. They might be slightly more expensive than government hospitals but it will be worth it as there are no waiting times, etc and they will be able to tell us what needs to be done without the back and forth associated with government hospitals.

If it's something they cannot handle, they might be able to give a referral to the right hospital (it might even be a government hospital) with capable consultants that can handle the case.

Considering the age of the boy and the financial condition of the parents, they might even be willing to offer some waiver from their charges.

This is the website of metro eye clinic.

http://www.metroeyesng.com/

It will be great if we go through them first for a diagnosis before the route of general hospital.

Thanks for the mention tearoses. Lemme read up and know the status, then I know how I can come in

Modified…
Read thru the thread, lets first see the outcome of the medical stuff before thinking of special school. I believe nothing is impossible with God. Its just about getting into right hands.
I kmow about one hospital that specializes only on sight, and they are always highly recommended plus its a catholic hospital at Agege. My mum was treated of cataract there. Will try getting the hospital name in the morning.

Well done Caracta, kudos!!! Likewise to tearoses aka madam ** grin

I think this is a better idea. We can relate with the hospital, book an appointment, then they head there. Cool?

By the way the hospital I talked about is Ancilla Catholic Hospital/Eye Centre around Iju Road, Agege - Pen Cinema.

Lets know the decision of which hospital and also getting across to them

Olu4life and Mynd44 Thank you for your input

Yes the parents should be able to take the boy to any hospital they are told to take him to
My only concern is that because they are illiterate they may not fully understand what they are told at the hospital or know which questions to ask, unless we have a go between.

RalphLauren please sir can you contact the hospital on our behalf & to pre inform them of Tomiwas situation and when he can come.
Olu please can you also do same for the Agege hospital too. I think 2 opinions are good, or what do you think?

Once we have an appointment date(s), I will ask the parents to take him and any medical records that they may have with them to the hospital

Thanks for the advise. It is really appreciated.
