All Western media are world class, and NEVER fail to ask the most important questions to leaders whenever the opportunity presents itself.

In the Amanpour/Buhari interview, the Hissen Habre question was really the KEY question, and Amapour made sure that Buhari committed (and submitted ) himself to an international war crimes tribunal should he kill Nigerians extra-judicially as is the habit of most Nigerian leaders. This time, it will be easy to bring Buhari to justice in the future.

Buhari should watch his steps. That act of bombing the creeks and killing innocent fishermen in the guise of fighting "kidnappers and oil bunkerers" may catch up with him later. If there are kidnappers and oil bunkerers, there are police formations for that. The police should have gone there to arrest those responsible. You don't drop bombs on an entire fishing village because of that.

Much thanks to Amanpour!

AMANPOUR: So finally, let me ask you about a previous African leader, a former African leader, the former dictator of Chad, Hissene Habre, who is being tried -- or at least they're trying to try him -- in Senegal. And he's refusing to cooperate.
Do you support that process of trying an accused African leader in Africa rather than at the International Criminal Court?

BUHARI: Justice is justice, whether it's done in Africa or elsewhere in the world. The important thing is let justice be done, whatever evidence the prosecution has in Senegal. I think they should -- you should proceed to make it available to the world and prosecute him according to international law on human rights.

AMANPOUR: So you -- so you support that process?

BUHARI: I support any process that is based on justice.

She tried to corner him into saying something that could be used against him in the future because they know he will definitely commit war crimes.

He replied her by bringing in "evidence" because he knows that even if they search up, down, left and centre, they won't find any.

.....and yet they say he is a dullard

But that is where he made a big mistake. If it were in the 80s, yes getting evidence would have been hard.
Today, there are MILLIONS of phone cameras roaming the streets in Nigeria.
The information even gets to Twitter or Facebook before any of the major news media gets in the scoop.
Just watch how this will play against him soon. lol

I still think its difficult to get evidence of war crimes especially in Nigeria. Is it when they are fighting that they will be taking camera shots? or will the US military send their drones to monitor them while they are tackling terrorism?

How many cases in Nigeria have become futile because of lack of evidence? Even the Amnesty International accusations do not hold water because they don't have concrete evidence.

Anyway....let's wait till then.

You are right to some extent, but now we have a group called IPOB whose radio station (radio Biafra) broadcasts to the whole world.
And they also have a powerful twitter presence.

Do you know that without them, nobody would have known that federal government bombed the creeks of Cross river and Akwa ibom, and they showed pictures of burnt children from that bombing?
Some may say that the pictures are not real, but they fail to show the real pictures, and the world community gets to know, which I suspect is why Amanpour asked that question. The rest of the world is not as dumb as Nigeria, y'know.

The way the world is now, is that international lawyers and organizations are seeking ANY information that will make them go after extra-judicial killers. That is why Hissen Habre was arrested in far away Senegal where he thought he had escaped justice.

The world has changed bro.

Maybe now Buhari will begin to rethink about the answers he gave to Amanpour in this interview in light of the statement from Senator Leahy below:

“President Buhari ignores the undisputed fact that most Nigerian army units have been approved, under the Leahy Law, for U.S. training and equipment. Only those particular units against which there is credible evidence of the most heinous crimes are ineligible for U.S. aid. And even those units can again become eligible if the Nigerian Government takes effective steps to bring the responsible individuals to justice.

“I strongly agree with President Buhari about the need to defeat Boko Haram, and I have supported tens of millions of dollars in U.S. aid to Nigeria for that purpose. But rather than suggest that the United States is at fault for not funding murderers and rapists in the Nigerian military, he should face up to his own responsibility to effectively counter Boko Haram. He should direct his attention to the Nigerian military, and the Nigerian courts, and clean up the units implicated in such atrocities.”

In fact I am now convinced that Buhari did not understand the question about Hissene Habre.

Let me help him to understand.

I shall try to rephrase the question so that even a dullard can understand.

Question: If you Buhari commits mass murder and war crimes in Nigeria (in the guise of fighting militants), will you submit yourself to trial (without us having to chase you down and dragging to justice kicking and screaming like Hissene Habre) in ANY country for such crimes?

Oya answer the question.

Apparently Buhari and his handlers don't understand how western media work. They don't just throw out questions without reason.
In fact most questions are drawn from core government policy, in this case US govt policy against mass murder by African (or any other) "strongmen".
In this century, the civilized world cannot support such government.

Nigeria murdered Mohammed Yusuf the Boko Haram founder. He was not given trial and justice. He was simply shot.
That is why we have a Boko Haram whirlwind in our hands.

Buhari's first actions in office (of bombing the creeks in guise of fighting kidnappers) did not show that he would do anything different.

Hence the question!

Buhari thinks he can get away with crimes against humanity and war crimes in 2015.
Well, we shall see how that happens...

Amanpour asked him a DIRECT QUESTION about this penchant of Nigerian government to gun down unarmed civilians.
He submitted himself to the ICC process.
