Boko Haram insurgents on Monday launched a fresh attack on Buratai, a small community in Borno State, where Nigeria’s army chief, Tukur Buratai, comes from, just a week after a similar attack there killed two people.

The attack on Buratai was the fourth since February 2014, PRNigeria, which distributes media releases for the Nigerian military, reported Tuesday.

The website quoted the acting director of army public relations, Sani Usman, a colonel, as saying that the “suspected terrorists made a futile attempt to attack Buratai town in Borno State and military camp located in the area”.

In February 2014 when Buratai was first attacked by the group, Mr. Buratai, a major general, served as commander of the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta.

His elevation a fortnight ago by President Muhammadu Buhari, as head of the army, has ostensibly drawn greater attention to the community, more so after Mr. Buratai vowed days after to crush Boko Haram and force its members to beg for mercy.

“As Chief of Army Staff, I will be actively involved in this ‘Operation Zaman Lafiya Dole’ to end the madness of Boko Haram if I will have your collective maximum support and cooperation,” he said in a speech in neigbouring Yobe State.

“Since Boko Haram terrorists have refused peace (Zaman Lafiya), we will now force them to accept peace.”
Two days after the remarks, the jihadist group staged a deadly onslaught on the community, killing two people and destroying homes including Mr. Buratai’s family home, in an attempt to seize the town.

Mr. Buratai was not present at the time of the attack in the early hours, security sources said at the time.
The latest attack was somewhat different, Mr. Usman said.

when u have a government whose only achievement is media propaganda, what do u expect?its a pity that the boko haram that was almost eliminated before may 29 has re-enforced and killed over 2900 nigerians just within 2 month of buhari's presidency, yet the president is busy posing for pictures and comparing himself with kim k and others.

As for the COAS,press up and posing with venomless snake is different from confronting boko haram

I had a problem with the army chief talking tough on assumption of office.

Big dogs don't bark.

The dog that will bite won't also bark.

when a man talks too much, dont take him serious.

that was how that pot bellied Alex Barde former defense chief said we will flush out Bokoharam in
60 days. that marked the beginning of mayhem in this country.

Army chief said we shall make bokoharam beg for peace...how will you make a man you dont know beg for peace.
these guys are civillians who hit and run and come back to mix up with the populace.

TALK is so cheap. Nigeria should brace up...Talk will not end this.

Is it not shameful that despite the braggings of Mr President to lead from the front and the new Army Chief talking tough we keep hearing "Boko Haram Attacks" and never "Nigerian Army Attacks Boko Haram"?

This is damned annoying

It's still part of the 100days of Honey Moon according to Tinubu so I guess it's allowed, plus incase we don't have anything to say, we just blame GEJ and say we'll plug some loopholes plus America will help us. shocked

nice 1, all the problems we've been facing in Nigeria except the NASS crisis are not caused by CHANGE, they are what the useless umbrella and its cohorts have caused in the country since 1999 and independence.

Alex Badeh suffered similar fate because of the way and manner they (military chiefs) brag before the press!

It's time for "more ACTION" and "less TALK"!!
