Electrical engineers should take note of this question before going for an interview or practical aptitude test. if you do not know 85% of the answers now as your reading it for the first time then you have work to do on yourself. Because of the nature of our university system(un experience lecturers with little or know industrial knowledge) and poor industrial training program, most of us graduated without knowing that these questions are the key to nailing any interview in electrical power section(instrument and process control will come later).
i can only vouch for AEIT for now wrt practical training.

1= What is the different between a solid state relay and an electromagnetic relay.
2= Why is it that an electrical motor using 480VAC is runs on a star/delta circuit.
3= Draw the control and the power diagram of a direct online motor.
4= What is single phasing of a 3 phase motor.
5= What is the function of a relay, contactor, and overload relay in a motor circuit.
6= what is the full meaning of MCB,MCCB and OLR
7= Name five part of an AC motor
8= Know your motor calculation, viz a viz slip. efficiency, speed.
9= How do you reverse the direction of a DC motor.
10=How do you reverse the direction of an AC motor.
11=what are the causes of a motor overload.
12=The speed of a motor is determine by what two factors
13=What is the different between synchronous and asynchronous motor.
14=Explain the operation of an induction motor.
15=How effective are you in the use of megger meter and analog/digital meter.
16=What are the different type of motor overload protection devices and how are they connected. such as fuses, OLR, MCB, MCCB, phase failure device, under current device, etc.
17=what do you understand by Power factor correction, what are the types of power factor correction and why is power factor correction important. etc.
18= Add more electrical motor question that you have come across in the interview.

everything having being said is know your motor, transformer and practical basic electricity very well.
note that you do not need to answer all the questions being asked in an interview but you need to answer a quite number of the question asked to your best, keep it simple and clear but before you get to this stage, your cv should speak for you.
consult other trends to learn how to write a very good cv.

i have 4 pdf and an electrical maintenance video to give out to those who want it. i have had my day, struggle to get here, made sacrifices, waited resources in search of practical electrical knowledge. the key is NEVER GIVE UP. one of your best aid to learning is www.youtube.com
there are so many short videos to explain most interview question.

Please send to my mail too I would gladly appreciate if u can. Thanks. ojelabijosephi2@gmail.com

Hello bro, that's a very good one; it will certainly give you stability of employment. However, what you need from life will determine how much you want to add to yourself. For any average person, your job is a cool one.
However, if you have the ambition to grow larger as life; you could add NEBOSH IGC, M.Sc and be a registered engineer. You are into O&M ( Operations and Maintenance) which is a very stable job. However, the experience on the job might not commensurate with that of anyone in the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction). In 5yrs time, an experience with EPC makes you the beautiful bride of many engrg arm. However, just enjoy your stay with the power sector: and please, if you are of age: get married (an Engr needs stability to focus and progress).
Have a great time as an Engr sir.

Thanks to all EE role model that comments on this trend, your words have come to mean a whole lot to me.
I am a fresh EE graduate from LAUTECH with 2.1, waiting to start NYSC service by the end of October. I have IT experience as a System/Network administrator with a bank as industrial attaché (where I spent 10 month due to ASSU strike), I have also undergone Telecom training. My keen interest is in IT/telecommunications.
Besides, please i need someone that can help me with my NYSC PPA placement because I desire to serve in IT or TELECOM firm to acquire relevant skill. I stay in Lagos. I can be reach on 07032972991 or flourishjoh@yahoo.com.

EPC is Engineering, Procurement and Construction. Its synonymous to a mechanic and driver. An EPC company design and Construct a Power Plant or Major Electrical Installations and the knowledge you accrue in a short while is mostly vast and detailed. Imagine having a knowledge of building, operations becomes a small issue.

Oh thanks...

How do one get jobs in companies like that cos they seldom advertise?

And are these M and E consultancy companies like that too?

Regards to you all. Please I don't intend derailing this wonderful thread, but I do need your kind advice. I'm aged 26, am a student of a federal polytechnic and I will be graduating in February next year. Due to HND, B.Sc disparity, I've been very confused as to which way to go from here. I intend doing a PGD in Information technology or Digital communication, but due to the demand of university degree in the country I'm thinking of running a direct entry to study Info-tech at NOUN. I chose NOUN because I will have to engage myself to earn to enable me earn to take full responsibility for my education etc. As my parents have my younger sibs to see through school. So, regular class a no go area. Secondly, age is no longer on my side. I prefare PGD because of the duration instead of spending another 3 years in school. God willingly I intend doing M.sc afterward. I really do not know how to go about it. I need your advice.

well from my point of view i think doing a pgd will be beta off..cos most definitely afta u pgd u can choose to take up a masters program and u will certainly be more qualified than a fresh graduate. .

I'm just wondering what else EEE graduates in Nigeria do apart from being in the Oil and Gas industry. Not that the industry is bad but it seems limiting in that it is not exactly 'electrical'. Say one is more interested in electronics for example, what are the chances of being able to do anything meaningful in Nigeria

Bro doing PGD is the best option and if u can gather some cash I will advice doing masters in abroad without having to pass through PGD. Meanwhile direct entry is 4 years extra not 3 years.
