DPR Shuts 23 Petrol Depots For Selling Above Government Price by MrNL(m): 8:43am On Aug 03, 2015
The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has
shut 23 private petroleum products depots across
the country for selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)
to marketers above ex-depot price of N77.66 per
litre, a statement said.
The statement, issued by DPR Director, Mr
Mordecai Ladan, in Abuja on Sunday, said that the
shutting of the facilities took effect on Friday.
It added that the depots were mainly in Lagos
except for two in Warri, Delta, and three in Calabar.
“The clampdown on the private depots followed the
report of a special investigation team set up by
DPR to uncover some unwholesome practices by
the private petroleum products depots following a
tip-off,” the statement said.
It added that the depots would remain sealed until
the some conditions were met by the owners,
including payment of two million naira fine and an
undertaking that PMS would not be sold to bulk
buyers.
It also said that all subsequent sales would be at
N77.66 per litre as approved by the Federal
Government, adding that DPR would monitor the
sale of the remaining and subsequent products.
The statement further said that DPR had directed
all its offices to ensure that all filling stations sold
PMS at government approved price of N87.00 per
litre regardless of source of source depot. (NAN)

Everybody has now woken from their slumber!

It's good they were not only shut down but will also have to pay a fine.

It added that the depots would remain sealed until some conditions were met by the owners, including payment of two million naira fine and an undertaking that PMS would not be sold to bulk buyers.

Everybody has now woken from their slumber!
Which slumber? Because of a single action?

I will only say they have woken up if it becomes consistent and it is done in all the 36 states of the federation including the FCT. Even if a Dog barks in the morning, it is Buhari that is to be thanked.

The DPR has always been doing this, it is not new. In short, the past Min of Petroleum joined in the exercise on several occasions during her tenure. Stop with the noise and praise singing already!

I dont really see the need to start shutting down filling stations. Why is DPR and NNPC not ensuring that there are more than enough fuel in circulation. In a situation where most big and reputable filling stations like Total, Mobil, MRS, Forte OIL and even NNPC owned filling stations all do not have fuels to sell, the other few having the fuel will inflate their prices.

i'm 100% sure u did not even read the write up. firstly, it wasnt petrol stations dat were shut down, but depots. the action is right. u cant go and shut down petrol stations for selling above 87 naira if they cant buy at the government approved price of 77 from the depots. once all the depots revert to government approved price, no station will have any excuse to sell above 87. if u want to solve a problem, start from the root.
