President Muhammadu Buhari said on Monday that his administration has taken further steps to recover looted Nigerian funds by identifying the banks and countries where the monies were lodged.


Speaking at an audience with visiting United States Congressmen at the presidential villa, Abuja, Mr. Buhari acknowledged the support and cooperation given his administration by the international community in gathering all required intelligence for tracing and recovering stolen national resources.

“We are getting cooperation from the international community, including information on ships that take crude oil from Nigeria and change direction, or pour their contents into other ships mid-stream,” he said.
“Some monies were paid to individual accounts. We are identifying the financial [b]institutions and countries that are involved.

“I have been assured that when we get all our documents together, the United States and other countries will treat our case with sympathy,’’[/b]
the president told the Congressmen led by Darrel Issa.

President Buhari also told the lawmakers that his administration will encourage more regular meetings of the Nigeria-United States Bi-National Commission.
He said the commission could serve as a more useful platform for the promotion of bilateral trade and economic relations as well as joint cooperation in the war against terrorism.

Mr. Darrel assured President Buhari that the United States will support Nigeria against Boko Haram by providing training, intelligence and military platforms.
“We look forward to helping you in many ways to end the Boko Haram insurgency and the theft of crude oil in the Gulf of Guinea,’’ he said.

Strong indications have emerged that the Federal Government of Nigeria and the United States have launched full investigation into smuggling of the Nigerian crude oil through Saltpond platform in Ghana.

Information gathered revealed that several thousands of barrels, which were supposedly pilfered from Nigeria, made their way to global markets through Saltpond oil facility, which is owned by Ghana and Lushann International Energy Corporation (LIEC), a Houston-based firm.

I can‘t just imagine how the stolen money if retrieved will change the lives of Nigerians.

This is the most ridiculous article put togrther. It once again mentioned the goals but failed to list the objectives or instruments needed to achieve them. Through what agreement will he recover the so called stashed funds.What investigative agencies did he hire to arrive at the locations , figures and even the confirmation of such stashed loot. Was interpol contacted in this investigations or was it through our local EFCC. This is a government that has no respect for processes, procedures or for the intelligence of Nigerians.
Here's another question, which committee does Mr Durrel belong to. Is the committee that visited the president that which handles trade. It looked like it was a committee which handled everything from international trade to defence and also foreign relations. The APC government should brief us on this. Just so we get this straight any agreement on bilateral trade would require the debate and approval of the committee on trade , then later would be discussed by the congressmen on capitol hill before we could see any light on it. The US is not run by a small group of people but rather by all the tiers of government and the American people
