1: Marijuana

Marijuana, has been called by different
names: ranging from ganja to Indian hemp,
weed, SK, igbo etc. biologically it is the
flowering top of a plant known as the
Cannabis Sativa L. it is a plant grown for its
high THC content. We will not go into the
chemistry here, in case of ndlea go grab me but suffice to say, that it
induces an altered state of consciousness, in
which the user may feel euphoric, uninhibited
and relaxed. The user might also experience a
more vivid sense of taste, sight, smell and
hearing. It leads to hallucinations, panic and
anxiety attacks and mental instability, in the
long term, use of marijuana might lead to
cancer, memory loss, decreased sex drive and
insanity.
2: Alcohol

Alcohol can be found in most beverages,
ranging from dry gin, whisky, beer, wine and
spirits. A student addicted to alcohol, finds it
difficult to concentrate, when he has not
imbibed some quantities. Unlike the case of
marijuana, an addiction to alcohol is easily
noticed and can lead to greatly embarrassing
situations. In the long term, such dependence
on alcohol may lead to kidney problems, high
blood pressure, Parkinson disease, anxiety
attacks.

3. Games

The playing of Video games is considered
quite harmless, and it actually is, if done in
moderation. However, there is an alarming
trend among Nigerian students, the playing of
video games has now taken the place of every
other aspect of their lives as undergraduates.
The PlayStation console is wanted and
coveted and for those who cannot get it, they
simply upload football games to their laptops
and get gaming control pads. Although those
addicted to games are a minority, it is
nevertheless a real and present danger. This
addiction has led to failing grades and
antisocial behavior.
