The longlist, or ‘Man Booker Dozen’, for the £50,000 Man Booker Prize was announced Wednesday, July 29 .

This year’s longlist of 13 books was selected by a panel of five judges chaired by Michael Wood, and also comprising Ellah Wakatama Allfrey, John Burnside, Sam Leith and Frances Osborne. The judges considered 156 books for this year’s prize.

Among the 13 nominees is 29-year old Nigerian, Chigozie Obioma, for his novel, The Fishermen, set in a small town in Nigeria in the mid-1990s.

Good for him, good for Nigeria.
Something like this a classic case of how we should b viewing individuals, he's igbo, but the outside world won't know him as igbo but rather, a Nigerian thus bringing pride to the nation as a whole. Guess, its high time we stop celebrating pettiness and focus on real issues.
Am not igbo, but it seems the ibo's have a fine way of written and using words hence people from that extraction always making wave even outside nija in the area of literature, kudos to them for that.
i hate nobody, i am firstly an offa man, then yoruba man, then nigerian and then a peace loving world citizen.

The fisherman, and the story was set in a small town in the 90"s why do I have a feeling this story is about a particular fisherman from a small town that told us he had no shoes [ smiley
