A chieftain of the governing All Progressives Congress, Paul Ikonne, has stated that leaders of the party from the South Eastern region are being mocked by supporters of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party over President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to appoint people from the region.
Mr. Ikonne who spoke with journalists on Tuesday in Abuja, said he believes the South East will get its due rewards soon.
“To be very honesty with you we are under pressure, serious pressure, because the PDP people and those that didn’t believe in the APC are just mocking us but we are not disturbed,” he said.
He also said PDP supporters are trying to create the feeling of disappointment and disaffection among the supporters of the APC in the South East.
He, however, assured APC supporters to remain calm, assuring them that Mr. Buhari would fulfill his promise to them.
“During campaign he came to South-East and he made promises and I believe he will keep to his promises. I have no doubt in my mind that when Mr. President turn to South-East he will balance the equation,
“Don’t forget that there still some key positions left that he has not filled, so I am optimistic that at the end of the day he will do justice to the South-Easterners,” he said
The APC Chieftain also commended Mr. Buhari over the appointment of the new Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Ibe Kachikwu.
He said the choice of Mr. Kachikwu was a good one because he has the qualities to help the President in his resolve to tackle corruption at the NNPC.

Mr. Paul Ikonne,

One Million Mocks from the PDP will not force Buhari into hastily putting unqualified people into positions, from any Region as that was one of the main reason's Jonathan failed.

Mr. Paul Ikonne, in the APC we do not use words like rewards. If there is a qualified person from the East, then by all means he or she should be put in charge of the job. We will not say, because we want to placate the East in anyway, then put in mediocre's to do a job meant for a qualified technocrat.

Mr. Paul Ikonne, honestly should not even be in the APC from his utterances. What party does he think the APC is? the PDP? where positions are shared like candies to unqualified persons based on tribal or ethnicity reasons?

These sycophants in the SE should not give the impression that Igbos will die if not appointed. It is a right and they ought to come from a position of strength to demand what rightfully belongs to the region and its people, not sit and trust in some promise which anyone can renege on. That is what it takes to be political representatives. They must never lose sight of the fact that they are first of all Nigerians, with equal rights and demands as all others and also importantly, of the Igbo extraction. Those two considerations must weigh over and above political affiliation whether APC, PDP or anything else especially at Federal level.

The benchmark must be the good of the people whether in unity or diversity. Igbos do not lack for qualified and capable hands so make that point clear Ikonne rather than hang ur head and whine, cap-in-hand about some promise!
