Costa Rica.

The Costa Rica national police force known as the Fuerza Publica is requiriting for police officers. The recruiting ad indicates that that the base salary for a police officer is 276,000 Colones which is $559 per month at current exchange rates. To the base salary there are other incentives added which could bring the salary up to 421,000 Colones which is $854 dollars.With annual salaries that range from $6,000 to $11,000 per year the salary of a Costa Rican police officer is low compared to their counterparts in the United States where the median is around $60,000 per year.

You have a point though, 50k is peanut to that profession. That's the situation, millions of families(father, mother&children) are living on or below 50k salary in the country. Most esp state government secondary/primary school workers.

The highest paid I know of work outside the New York City area. Long Island, Westchester and Rockland counties. Not all large departments either.The average salary in Clarkstown NY being in the $160,000 range. Some with disability pensions (75% tax free) well over $100,000. Sure the cost of living is higher then elsewhere in the US, but most retire then live in cheaper areas. But most of the big NY pensions are made by teachers, the biggest NY state pensions a NYC professor who's pension is over $560,000 year, don't ask me how that happened that's more then some countries presidents.
I believe with the larger police salaries it comes down to overtime available, (especially with disability pensions) at least in NY and I haven't seen any police salaries larger. I'm not complaining about my pension, but if I had to do it all over again, I'd do it differently.

That 50k is for the least paid constable recruited with school certificate. That's the salary of a fresh degree holder in most state ministries and agencies. An ASP in the police force in Nigeria is equivalent of a fresh degree graduate employed by federal/state ministries. An ASP earns about N120k/month as against about 80k for graduates employed by federal government and 55-65k for states depending on the state. Police salaries in Nigeria isn't enough really but not bad when compared with national average. Lowest cadre of university lecturers, i.e. graduate assistant earn less than a police ASP in Nigeria.
