Crisis Erupts In Niger State Over Quran Interpretation by alfchye(m): 1:53pm On Mar 29, 2009
The peace of the ancient town of Bida in Niger State was disturbed on Tuesday when two Islamic groups went to war with each other over the interpretation of the Quran.

The crisis erupted as a result of the ceremonies marking the Eid-el-Maulud festival to mark the remembrance of the birth of Prophet Moha-mmed.

According to eyewitnesses, one of the sects had kicked against the marking of the festival because it was unreligious, while the other group said there was nowhere in the Quran that such a religious practice was forbidden

The source said the situation resulted in one of the sect leaders dragging the other group to court, seeking a perpetual injunction restraining the other group from going ahead with the celebration.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that without waiting for the outcome of the litigation, the other group went ahead to begin activities marking the birth of the prophet.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that it was while the celebration was on that members of the other group stormed the venue with one of them climbing on the table on which the Quran was placed.

He was alleged to have stood on the Quran, which ensued in a free-for-all. Weapons were allegedly used by the members of both sects on each other, causing many injuries among each followers.

The fracas was said to have spread beyond the venue of the ceremony as the houses of leaders of both sects were destroyed. The police in the state waded into the matter to control the situation, but on Tuesday night, there was a reprisal attack at the houses of some leaders of another sect.

The chairman of Bida Local Government Area, Alhaji Mohammed Sharu and the Police Public Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Richard Oguche, confirmed the story, saying more anti-riot policemen were despatched to the area to maintain law and order.

God protect the Christians there.
This sishow they start and later on they'll unite and start killing Christians
Stupid people
why can't they be tolerant of themselves and others?
If a group wants to even celebrate Easter why should it bother the Muslims around them?
why can't they worship their God and leave others to worship whatever and however they choose?
