What has CHANGED ?

The last explanation from American government for not buying oil from Nigeria anymore is described below.

- Does it mean that America oil production has dropped to make it now intending to buy crude oil from Nigeria ?

- Could it be a wicked policy to punish the unyielding president at the time ?

- Do we now have a president who is ready to do the bidding of the modern slave master ?

Fellow Nigerians,

Please what has really changed ? abi dis too naa the body odour or na body language una dey call am ??

According to the White House Economic Council Director, “across the last several years, US oil production has ramped up significantly by more than 50 percent to now over eight and a half million barrels per day.”

He explained that such a high turn up in local US oil production “has now dramatically reduced our dependency on imports,” Zients noted, adding that “in fact, we now produce more here than we import.”

You guys need to get real. It is now a buyers' market. Nigeria is too unreliable to replace Saudi Arabia supply to US. Understand that oil is abundant all over unless you wanna drink it yourself.

We cannot even refine all we need and sell without corruption. Get over Jona mismanagement and greed with impunity - na our oil!

Yeye dey boom.

If India, China and Brazil increases their Fuel imports from us, we might not have any crude left to sell to the US.

We need options when it comes to buyers
Well said. The three countries mentioned are emerging economies ithe last twenty years, partnering with these power blocs will definitely favor us on the long run. We share similar econmic climates with brazil and india as for the chinese, they will give us anything without strings attached as long as the terms are right. As for america, they can never be relied on. We need to be very, very careful when dealing with them moreover, we share no similar antecedents.

As a matter of fact, No one is a good ally if we want to move away from being a third world country. We should rely only on ourselves and seek for a win-win situation with the world powers. Every country is looking out for their personal interest, We shouldn't be any different.

Shale production is only profitable at $50 dollars and above , right now oil is trading far lower than that so shale producers are scaling back production.
That the US stopped buying oil from Nigeria had nothing to do with GEJ.
Not everybody is as malicious as you.

This is what I've always advocated for.

If countries with little or no crude like Japan and Singapore could be refining and exporting excess of 3million barrels/day, then WTF are we doing exporting raw crude for cheap?!

When we can be making many times more from refined products, quadrupling our foreign exchange earnings, improving the Naira, probably tripling our GDP while creating tons of industries and jobs.

Way back between 1990/1991 we were earning roughly $150m from refined exported products!

In a normal country, we should be doing multiple times that in 2015, but, hell we can't even refine enough for own use -- we import!

For now that is almost impossible because we have not even be able to meet production for local consumption talk more of exporting refined crude.
That's a dream for Nigeria, if this administration can achieve refining crude for local consumption for 2years without a single import. Then that's a huge step ahead. We would have saved lots of money been legally stolen by oil marketers in the name of subsidy.

America's willingness to resume buying oil from us is good and all but not the what interests me most. That India intends to increase their oil imports from Nigeria to $50 billion is the real news here

That is great news

And why is that great? Depressing/shaming is what I'll term it.
If india which also have some oil has grown to the point of needing more to drive their manufacturing base. While we don't even have a market for refined products yet except, petrol, diesel and other fuels, then it's depressing

just as will be equally depressing if the major data driver (don't have complete stats) in this country is social media.

This article title is utter rubbish and I'm not really sure why people are rejoicing. This Paul Wibhey guy heads his private energy consulting company and is just speculating at a lecture given in Nigeria.

Firstly he said if geo political relations change and the US may increase imports from Nigeria if Saudi Arabia continues to be closer to China. That's a big speculation and also ignores the fact that US imports from Saudi Arabia has been falling steadily due to increasing oil production in the US anyway.

Nigeria better not Base their economic planning on the US resuming oil imports from Nigeria.

Is it the same US that is also planning to be the biggest gas exporter in a few years that will ignore all the gains it has made to be more energy dependent and start importing from nigeria again?

Please read the article and tell me where he said the US will definitely start importing.

Seems we are so desperate for good news on Nigeria.

Oh please. the oil prices didn't fall due to sinister intentions.

The Us has always made it clear they would pursue energy self dependency and it's countries like Nigeria, Venezuela etc who were silly enough to believe oil prices will remain high forever and instead of planning and investing in the future decided to steal, waster and chop all the proceeds.

Oil is a commodity and the price will rise and fall based on demand and supply simple. China the biggest energy consumer for the past few years is slowing down and the US the second biggest is now an exporter so demand has fallen and supply risen. Supply will also increase when Iran joins the party.

I applaud the US with what they have achieved with Shale. shows what hardwork and a vision can do. People said shale oil can never be drilled successfully but they invented new techniques to achieve it while Nigeria is crying sinister plot.

major466:

I understand Nigeria need options but, more importantly Nigeria need her sovereignty back. Nigeria should be moving towards diversification. Nigeria need an economic base that she can control, not depending international oil markets.
The United States govt who are responsible for crashing international oil prices for her sinister plots will still do it in future. They did it in the 80s and 2014-2015. They will surely do it again.
