10 Reasons Nigerians Are Not Reading Your Blog Posts by tsticks(m): 12:44pm On Sep 08, 2015
It can be discouraging especially if you’re a new blogger in Nigeria when you find out most of your blog posts are not being read, sometimes it makes you want to give up and most times you find it very difficult to fathom what the problem is because you’ve done your best to create a content and share it on different social medial channel but still you are not getting the traction you want. In some instances, your blog may only get a few dozen hits each post. And the only shares that happen come from your own social media accounts.

“Why aren’t people reading my blog posts?”

This same question may have popped up in your mind. I know it’s one I’ve struggled with before. Every new blogger has struggled with the concept of traffic, audience and building a successful blog. And that’s why many give up on their blogging before they see success.

Instead of giving up you can identify the reasons people aren’t reading your blog. Then take strategic steps to improve.

These 10 reasons will help get you started on your quest:

1. You haven’t identified a strong audience persona

You can’t create creative and captivating content without an in-depth knowledge of your audience. Personas i.e your target audience personalities not only help you create better content, but they also help guide your topics, strategy and monetization efforts. Don’t strive to make your blog appeal to all and sundry!

2. You don’t know how your audience searches for content

This requires a deeper step into your overall persona.

What does the audience search for?
What kind of things do they need to learn?
How can my content serve those needs?
Answer those questions and you’ll not only have a path for content creation, but you’ll know exactly how to optimize for search engine.

3. You don’t publish new posts on a regular schedule

Something i have observed about those who read blog posts is that they want consistency. This is why you will always find traffic flowing towards lindaikeji blog because they know they will find something new to read. Without consistency, your audience might never become attached to your blog content. It can be tough in the face of competing priorities, but create a schedule and stick to it.

4. You aren’t creating content that provides enough value

For most people online time is a precious thing. If you don’t offer immense value through your content, why should someone waste that little time they have consuming your content? so create content of great value.

5. You don’t test different types of blog posts for engagement

Most bloggers don’t test what content works and what doesn’t all they just do is post content. There are numerous types of content that drive traffic and you need to discover what works for your audience and not what only appeals to you.

6. You don’t include enough images throughout the post

Humans are visual creatures we love to see and watch something. This is one of the secret of the likes of Bella naija and Lindaikeji they always have something interesting to feed your eyes it’s either they are talking about wedding or Kardeshian family. Including images throughout your post creates natural breaks in the content. This keeps readers engaged and reading, instead of distracted and leaving.

7. Poor & Unattractive Blog Design

You will be surprised that readers respond to the layout and design of your blog. In many ways the design of your blog will influence someone to read. If you have an outdated, unprofessional blog design, would-be readers will leave your site before they ever give your content a chance.

8. Your blog isn’t optimized for mobile reading

Are you aware that more and more people are using their smartphones to consume content. It’s also increasingly important for SEO. A responsive design ensures that your website is optimized for mobile viewing. Don’t overlook this key design aspect because people now spend more time with their mobile devices.

9. Your blog takes too long to load

By nature Nigerians are impatient they always want to get things done faster and this also transcends to surfing the web. If your website takes too long to load, readers will abandon their quest to get information from your site – and they’ll quickly find it somewhere else.

10. Your headlines are not compelling

The first thing readers get to see in the content of your post is the headline. The headlines you use could mean the difference between dozens of people reading your post and thousands of people flocking to your blog. Spend as much time on the headline as you do for the entire post, if that’s what it takes. It’s that important to the success of your blog.

There are so many reasons why people might not be reading your blog posts but the 10 reasons higlighted above covers some important aspect of successful blogging.

I hope this article helps? Feel free to share, ask questions and comment.

Your reasons were well.mentioned......BUT..... many bloggers have done the above but still have low page views.....?so lemme give my own reasons....
#1 You think only content is king......
No...no...no.......bloggers don't think that way anymore...content isn't king.....promotion is......

Many bloggers in Nigeria are wonderful writers altho we hav some copy and paste curlpits.......the missing link is targetted article promotion... The reason your articles aren't been read is most likely because your not promoting it to the right audience.

#2 Your articles are ...just the usual....

Many Nigerian bloggers don't think outside the box..... Your readers are not looking for the ordinary.....give em the extraordinary.....even if you are writing on a trend...study your competitors and do better..

#3 You ain't doing your SEO right....

True....many nigerian bloggers don't give a hoot aboit SEO and they don't care to ask for help..... Plan your SEO strategy well...with the right keywords...right permalink structure......right backlink building ....etc

#4 You don't comment on other blogs...

Yes ooo...nigeriaan bloggers are stingy with their comments....without knowing giving comments gives your own article a voice to be heard.....

This is how you do it.....
Vist as much as 5 blogs with content related to your new article....give professional comments.... ( not the usual..."nice article"......"good post".....blah blah ) give comments that are long and comprehensive.....and put you link at the end......it works everytime.......

Better stil send the owner of the blog a personal message after your comment...telling him/her how much their article inspired you to write urz...nd dat u'd be happy if they linked backed you...as far as u wud do the same.....

#5 You have never thought of guest blogging...

Apply to write articles for other bloggers free of charge..as far as they put an author bio below each post....as their own readers see ur professional and compelling post...i assure you thaat you wil have more readers in no time.......
