Soludo: being promoted as Finance Minister under Buhari
Following the victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the presidential elections, internal
politicking over the formation of the cabinet of president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has started in
earnest.
Although, some individuals have been penciled down for certain offices, selection of those to fill the
coveted “juicy” positions may not be an easy task as powerful party members and others who gave
Buhari support from outside the APC are pushing one or two nominees they believe can do a good
job.
DAILY POST on Monday gathered that former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Professor
Chukwuma Charles Soludo may have been presented by former president Olusegun Obasanjo as the
possible Minister of Finance for the Buhari administration.
Soludo was a member of the economic team for the Obasanjo administration prior to becoming the
governor of the CBN.
Soludo’s presentation to the incoming administration as candidate for Minister of Finance is
reportedly causing disquiet within the inner circles of the party, 247ureports said.
Many APC chieftains are said to be against his candidature on two grounds. One is that Soludo
remains a card carrying member of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and his appointment
would been as taking from Peter to pay Paul.
The other is that it was under Soludo that the banking sector almost collapsed, a situation
confirmed by former CBN chief and Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, a staunch supporter of the
APC.
It was also under Sanusi that the banking industry went through a recapitalisation process that led
to the reduction in the number of banks from 50 to 25.
His clean up also witnessed the prosecution of bank Chief Executive Officers who were discovered to
have robbed their own banks by almost unilaterally awarding contracts to phoney organisations and
companies they either own or had substantial omnterest in.

So far as financial management is concerned, I think I prefer Sanusi Lamido to Chukwuma soludo irrespective of what they studied.

Summarily, Lamido is Bent on making it more difficult to hoard and mismanage and came up with some banking policies to better or revamp the banking system.......... While our Brother Soludo is Bent on Making it easier for Looters to Loot public funds by creating even more notes like 5k note for easier transportation........... He could be better than Iweala, but the rot Sanusi met in the banking industry suggest that Soludo is very awful as far as oversight and monitoring is concerned.

Most of the bank executives were having a filled day enriching themselves illegally while Soludo seemed not to be bothered or was totally clueless about the Banking industry besides the economics of recapitalisation and growth.

However, if Soludo gets the nod, I hope he would use his position as finance minister to proceed with his plan to re-denominate the Naira by removing as many zeros as possible. Our Naira amount is too much for the value that it can buy.

Only you seem to be oriented towards tribalism. All I see in the post you've quoted is someone making valid claims as to the rot in the banking sector while Soludo was CBN governor. He simply failed in his oversight duties while promoting growth.

But he will have no choice than step up his game when he remembers that Buhari is his president.

Obasanjo remain d most succesful yoruba politician, unlike Awolowo d local champion and Thie.fnubu whose outing at d national level has bn disastrous.

He knows the job inside out.

A minister can only be corrupt when the boss is corrupt first. Because corruption thrives on accusation and counter accusation. Cross blackmail if you like.

Obasanjo has proven so many times that he is very detribalized. He is one of the few who truly believes in one Nigeria based on equity.
