This seems like a great initiative. Speaking personally, I use the internet to get more information about medication and I am often unsure how reliable the information is. A single portal to reliable sites would be a great help in this area and if you want's to get breif knowledge on the same you can visit http://affordablemedz.com/

Hi Bernard,
In your post regarding cervical smear test 2years 11months ago, you mentioned its N1000 to carry out the test. I am encouraging women in my local church in Ikotun Lagos to do this test but the quote we are getting from local private diagnostic organisations is between N8000-N10000. Please direct us to where we can go get the test done for N1000 in Lagos.

Thank you.

NOTICE OF INDEFINITE STRIKE
THE HON MINISTER OF HEALTH,
FEDERAL MINISTRY OF HEALTH,
FEDERAL SECRETARIAT,
ABUJA.

DEAR SIR,

NOTICE OF FIFTEEN (15) DAYS –FINAL ULTIMATUM.
The Joint Health sector Unions (JOHESU) met on Tuesday and Wednesday 17th and 18th of April 2012 at the NANNM’s National secretariat, Abuja to review all the pending issues that have been a subject of negotiation between her and the federal ministry of Health since more than three years ago.
After exchaustive deliberations, it was observed that despite series of meetings held with the Federal Ministry of Health, the demands of JOHESU remain un-attended to. It was therefore resolved that a fifteen day(15) final ultimatum be given to the Honourable minister of Health and the federal ministry of health to meet the following demands of the unions or face an indefinite strike from the 7th of May 2012.
The Issues In Contention Are:
1. Non-Skipping Of Salary CONHESS 10 The need for the Head of service to withdraw the circular which prohibits further skipping of salary CONHESS 10 in the Health sector, an award that members have been enjoying since 1982.
2. National Health Bill: JOHESU has called on the Federal Ministry Of Health To constitute a stakeholders conference to agree on grey areas contained in the National Health Bill before it is re-represented to National Assembly for passage. Up-till now, the FMOH had refused to do so.
3. Presidential Committee Report On Harmony In The Health Sector:
-JOHESU noted that since November 2011 when the report was formally presented to the Honorable Minister of Health, no action has been taken to constitute a white paper committee for its implementation despite series of calls for immediate implementation by the unions.
4. Promotion Of Health Professionals From CONHESS 14 To 15
Despite the fact that the National council of establishment has approved the schemes of services that enable health professionals to be promotable to Director’s post on col 17 (CONHESS 15) to the tertiary health institutions have refused to promote our qualified members as necessary. We therefore call for the promotion of these members without further delay.
5. Consultancy& Specialist Allowance
In December 2010, the current health minister unilaterally issued an internal memo which stripped other health professionals who had earlier on had been appointed and recognized as consultants of their consultancy status stating that only medical practitioners were qualified to be so designated. Despite convincing evidences to the contrary, the Honourable minister of Health has refused to restore their consultancy status. Similarly, those health professionals who are qualified to receive specialist allowance have been derived. We call for the restoration of this status and immediate payment of specialist allowance to all those who are duly qualified to receive the allowance
6. Call Shift And Other Professional Allowances.
In 2009, it was collectively agreed that call duty allowances would be negotiated and concluded. Despite incessant request and National industrial court rulings on the matter, the federal ministry of health has refused to meet our demands. We demand urgent negotiation of call duty, shift and related allowances as soon as possible.
7. Request For Implementation Of 2008 Job Evaluation Committee Report.
Although the FMOH wants a new job evaluation report to be carried out, the JOHESU want the extent report of 2008 to be implemented first before embarking on a new one.
8. Re-Constitution Of Boards Of Managements Of Teaching And Other Tertiary Hospitals
JOHESU has observed that, the former practice whereby eight to nine persons who are medical practitioners used to form the membership of a fourteen members Board of each Teaching Hospitals whereas only one(1). Person used to represent the interest of more than fifteen other health professional groups is no longer acceptable to our unions / professional Association. We therefore request that not less than eight (cool members of the management Board should be drawn from registered unions and Health professional Association in the sector.
9. Need For Review Of Retirement Ages
JOHESU demands that the retirement age of health sector professionals and workers should be reviewed in line with their university staff counterparts since it has been accepted since 1982 that staff of universities Teaching Hospitals and Research Institutes shall enjoy essentially similar conditions of service.
10. Appointment Of Honourable Ministers Of Health
The assembly of health professional Associations and JOHESU had drawn the attention of Mr. President to the dangers inherent in appointing medical practitioners alone as health minister via our advice and warning Mr. President went ahead to appoint the two ministers of health from the medical practitioners constituency without anyone from the allied health professional group. We are seriously opposed to this position. Therefore, we call on Mr. President that when he is reconstituting his cabinet the present ministers should be relocated while atleast one member of the Allied Health Professionals is appointed to achieve the most expected harmony in the health sector.
