Naira Depreciates By N2 Against Dollar by megadeal: 9:08am On Sep 24, 2015
Lagos—The Naira,  yesterday, depreciated slightly against the Dollar at the parallel market, dropping by N2.The currency traded N222, N350 and N256 against the Dollar, Pounds and Euro, respectively.

On Monday and Tuesday, it traded at N220, N345 and N252 against the Dollar, Pounds and Euro respectively.Naira-Dollar

However, the official interbank rate remained at N197 to the Dollar.Mr. Harrison Owoh, a bureau de change operator, said in Lagos that the Naira’s drop in value was connected to Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN’s failure to sell enough foreign currencies.

He said that parallel market operators had expected the apex bank to sell more foreign currencies before the Eid el-Kabir break.Owoh said that the currency may depreciate further due to the long break associated with Muslims’ celebration.

I repeat for the umpteenth time - PMB needs to constitute his Economic Team ASAP without further delay. Nigeria needs Fiscal Policy direction to move the economy out of the scum handed over by the PDP.

The CBN governor is constrained as to how far he can use Monetary Policies to manage the economy/Naira. A competent Finance Minister to drive Fiscal Policies is urgently needed.

The problem is much bigger than a depreciating Naira. It's about Unemployment, Over dependence on Oil, Over dependence on Imports, Poor Infrastructure, Poor local manufacturing, etc. I am desperate to hear government policies on these issues.

Times like this make me want to WAIL so loud.

The Ministers of Finance and Commerce & Industry would have to hit the ground sprinting. I'd rather they don't even hit the ground cos the reality on ground is very disheartening.

Recall that. When Buhari was declared the winner, dollar was trading at 208 against the naira.

Its getting clearer that we need to act fast or devalues the Naira futther. Its obvious that monetary policies may not be the only answer. Fiscal policies should complement.
