I ask because I've often wondered what happens with the ring he proposed with after the engagement and wedding rings have been placed on the finger. Or does the proposal ring serve as the engagement ring?

~Yup,Mine did . . altho i dont wear it w/ Wedding band . . anyways i'd like to think The proposal ring does serve as the Engagement Ring for most women,except ofcourse if The woman didnt like the Proposal Ring & Want Another One w/ Bigger Better Bling/Rock grin

So what happens when he proposes with one ring and then you guys have to do the traditional engagement party? Do you give it back so that he can re-present it at the ceremony?

People wear the engagement ring as well as the wedding band.
I'm not sure how it works for traditional marriage though.
