P0171 in Toyota Corolla 1.8LE 2007

P0171 = System too lean.
In dealing with the P0171 code error, we've discover its due to a lot of variables ranging from dirty air filter, dirty/bad MAF, broken air intake hose, dirty throttle body, plenum on intake manifold leaking not providing enough barrier to allow in entered air into the engine, dirty clogged injectors, dirty/bad pcv valve, broken pcv hose, lazy/bad A/F and/or 02 sensor bank 1, non securely locked air box etc.
Most corollas 2002-2010 are affected with this issue.

Symptoms of P0171 includes but not limited to erratic rpm on tachometer, hesitation of engine, loss of power, having a behaviour similar to misfiring (without attendant blinking of CEL), hissing sound from engine area etc.

In diagnosing and fixing P0171, the aim is to eliminate all form of unmetered air from entering engine, ensuring air passage is clean and car breathes and recirculates air as is suppose to be.

We start working from simple to complex and ensure all we do is in order.
*Inspection of air intake routes for ruptures,
*Replacement of Dirty air filter,
*Cleaning of MAF sensor,
*Inspection and servicing of PCV valves and replacement of hose if broken.
*Inspection and cleaning of throttle body (DO NOT attempt to open butterfly valve forcefully or by hand, throttle body butterfly valve must be opened by the vehicle ECU to prevent errors and damage)
*Inspection of injectors and servicing of clogged injectors
* Inspection and replacement of intake manifold plenum if bad.
Re installing all removed

2002 Mercedes Benz W203 C230 Kompressor.
P0243 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid A Malfunction.
This occurs when the turbocharger's actuator body isn't actuating, there's an escape of air via the piping, or there is an oil leakage into the air/oil separator.

DO NOT TOUCH RUNNING PARTS, BLADES OR HOT SURFACE OF AN ENGINE TO PREVENT INJURIES. DO NOT DROP OBJECTS INTO VENTS, DUCTS PIPEWORKS IN AN ENGINE TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO ENGINE, DO NOT TOUCH HOT FLUIDS, CARRY OUT THIS OPERATION IN A COLD ENGINE
Remove rubber tubing connecting radiator expansion tank to engine, remove intake hose, ducts and clips connected to supercharger, take out air filter. Using a long length E10 socket wrench, remove two bolts from the supercharger wastegate area, remove the little pipes connecting the supercharger to the engine, check for cracks on the pipes, oil leakages around the engine area or on pipe. Locate the supercharger actuator area and undo the clips. Shake black plastic air/oil separator box and gently pull upwards to remove box.
Detach the actuator from the black plastic box and test for actuation. To test for actuation, start engine and rev to 40rpm and observe the butterfly valve movement. If butterfly valve on actuator closes and opens, actuator is okay, if it is not opening and closing, then actuator is out of sync and MUST be resync. After, resynchronization is complete, thoroughly clean air/oil separator box then reassemble all component and check to prevent air escape.

NOTE: you don't need to always replace your supercharger actuator/ clutch.

This is a fairly common challenge with Mercedes Benz C230 kompressor's supercharger.
Most folks will just recommend a replacement of the supercharger clutch but this is a fairly easy fix.

2009 Toyota Corolla 1.8l LE

Hard starting when engine has run for a while and its turned off for some minutes..
NOTE: No CEL codes to read.

After diagnosis via fuel pressure lines, Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR valve) found to be culprit.

Car is allowed to cool and ease off any pressure in the fuel line.
WARNING: TO PREVENT HIGH PRESSURE INJECTION INJURY, EXTREME CARE MUST BE TAKEN TO EASE OFF THE ACCUMULATED AIR/FUEL PRESSURE IN THE SYSTEM BEFORE WORKING ON AROUND A FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR
Remove battery terminal to prevent GOBE.
Release Andy residual air/fuel pressure in fuel line and tank, remove rear seat bench, open fuel pump covering, dtach the wiring harness socket attached the the fuel pump assy, remove every piping eouted to fuel pump assy, and carefully open the fuel pump lock.
Once cover is opened, carefully pull out fuel pump assy making sure the compnent doesnt get caught on any obstacle. Once fuel pump assy is pulled out, drain off fuel trapped infuel assy, and remove all clips/tabs holding the FPR valve. Carefully pull out the FPR valve from the fuel pump assy, then replace with exact working substitute. Fix all items removed in reverse order.

Attach battery, turn on ignition for some seconds but don't crank engine (to allow system re-pressurise the fuel line again), start engine and conduct a test drive to verify your work done.

Peugeot 406 2.0 phase 2.
Engine replacement. Old engine lost compression and couldn't perform properly. Hence the need to change the engine. However, I met another obstacle in this car - the wiring harness, it was really spliced, cut, frayed and kazeemized at multiple points. I had to painstakingly work to rectify the wiring issues instead of outright replacement because owner was working on a tight budget. The vehicle could not communicate with any DLC tool hooked up to it due to kazeemzations done to it.

Catastrophic engine failure. On diagnosis, engine does not crank, engine is locked and can't be rotated with a wrench, opened timing belt area, timing belt is intact.

Surprisingly, like the other peugeot 406 2.0, they have same colour (aluminium grey) with subtle black paint job in in the first peugeot 406, both are British Market hence converted, both had the Cast metal 2.0l engine which resembles the XU2.0l i4 aluminium engine, both are manual shift, both are phase 2 models.

On inspection of vehicle, the car couldn't crank, engine could not be rotated using a spanner/wrench.
