‘I trapped my 5
stone testicle in a
reclining chair’

THERE were three people in Dan
Maurer’s marriage – him, his wife,
and his enormous scrotum.
But thanks to a life-changing
operation to remove the 5
stone lymphedema in his testicles,
the 40-year-old is able to live a
normal life – and is back to driving
quad bikes and having sex with his
wife.
In a new documentary to be
screened on TLC tomorrow night,
Dan’s 80lb Testicle, cameras
follows the American in the run-up
to his op, exposing the horrors of
having an undercarriage that
weighed as much as FIVE bowling
balls.

Dan was left almost housebound
as moving around was a near
nightmare.
He couldn’t wear underwear,
needed to be tended to 24/7 by
his devoted wife Mindy, and had
to go to the toilet in the shower as
his testicles would make a mess if
he tried to sit normally.
Despite still feeling sexual urges,
Dan and Mindy hadn’t had sex
since 2009, with intimacy limited
to her bandaging his enormous
sac each day.
Romance was limited to a a few
laps in the local swimming pool, or
a weekly outing to the cinema –
but that also left Dan in agony.
He said: “I have to change
positions every ten minutes, and it
hurts.
“Every time I move, it tears the
skin.”
There was more pain when he got
his testicles trapped in the hinge
of a reclining chair.

After seeing a documentary about
someone who suffered a similar
condition, Dan realised that he no
longer had to live his life “trapped
in my own body”.
He said: “This has been a seven
year prison, but Mindy is the
perfect cellmate, so it hasn’t been
as bad as it could have been.”
In order to have the op, he had to
travel from his home in Michigan
to Calfornia, where surgeons
performed the twelve-hour
procedure.
At the same time as removing the
testicular mass, eight surgeons
and their twelve assistants also
sliced off Dan’s apron-like gut.

But things didn’t run smoothly –
medics spent hours trying to to
locate his penis and testicles,
which were embedded deep
within the mass.
The operation was a success, and
Dan is relishing being able to live a
normal life – which is good news
for Mindy, too.

“Our bed gets one hell of a work-
out,” he smirked.
Mindy added: “Before I used to
look after Dan, but now we can be
normal husband and wife, we’re
partners.”
