You'd agree with me that a lot of Poles were nazis themselves, hence the highest number of Jews were killed on Polish soil and Polish Jews were the most affected Jews during holocaust. Poland itself also tried to annex part of Czech's territory and Belarussia. And wasn't war mongering US president Franklin Roosevelt the reason why negotiations between Poland and everyone failed? Didn't the Poles also killed tons of ethnic Russia in Belarussia? Still right side of history for defending folks who're ethnically part of ya country against aggression.

Every student of history who has been able to study the events that led to world war 2 objectively knows that Hitler started the war as a war of necessity, then went overboard due to The Treaty of Versailles and the Soviets weren't the only ones - Stalin signed non aggression pact with Hitler, just as both the UK and France tried to sign the same non aggression pact with Germany. The only difference is that both failed. The Treaty of Versailles started world war 2 and Stalin might be right. How many civilian planes have the US shot down for no reason? Too many to count. Heck, even the one they claim was shot down by Libya, Pan Am Flight 103, was most likely shot down by the US or they planted explosive on the plane cos it was a false flag. And MH17 was shot down by the rogues in Kiev supported by the US. Not saying Russia doesn't do any wrong - but come up with better examples. RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY vs. WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY.

But Khrushchev did defend Egypt from foreign invasion, while the US supported the invasion, no? Whatever he did in Hungary has no bearing here since Hungary back then was part of the Eastern bloc, has no bearing on this since the US did the same all over Latin America during the same period.

I honestly don't think most folks care about the US too tough to envy the country apart from African American culture - mostly via music and urban fashion - sports, and Hollywood. The US just likes to get people talking with unnecessary killings and bombings everywhere. When bombs go off anywhere, you know the yanks are there. Why? Can't we live in peace on the planet cos some new country by virtue of the old cultures self-destruction got hold of some fancy big toys and decided to start disturbing the peace of everyone everywhere?

So If i understand your logic, The soviet union Should get a pass for rolling tanks into Hungary ( a sovereign country) because they have a military and economic pact? Do i need to remind you that most if not all of the countries that constitute the Warsaw pact were compelled to because those areas were occupied when the Red army was advancing towards Berlin and refused to leave.

If is was the right of the Kremlin to protect the dictator in Budapest because Hungary is her sphere of Influence, Britain should be allowed to do the same with Seuz canal then dont you think?

US DID NOT support the British adventure in Egypt by that way. America was clearly against it. America did not support Nasser either but that was because he was in bed with the Soviet Union and the main reason why Dulles denied him a loan to build his Aswan dam ( Cold war politics) which lead to the whole crisis.

Yes US shot down a lot of airlines over the years but you wont see the military showing the world a power point to cover it up . They even faked a cockpit transmission. Very elaborate cover up. Utterly shameful. The same way the Stalin tried to pin the Polish officers he killed on the Germans with fake props too lol

How about the Circassian genocide during the Russo-Circassian War ? Or are you still going to keep making excuses or admit that Russia, Just like any other great power will do anything to further her interests.

Missy89,

This is the full article of George Kennan's last interview with New York Times before he passed away. An American hero! cool

Read and digest the article.

Foreign Affairs; Now a Word From X
By THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN
Published: May 2, 1998

His voice is a bit frail now, but the mind, even at age 94, is as sharp as ever. So when I reached George Kennan by phone to get his reaction to the Senate's ratification of NATO expansion it was no surprise to find that the man who was the architect of America's successful containment of the Soviet Union and one of the great American statesmen of the 20th century was ready with an answer.

''I think it is the beginning of a new cold war,'' said Mr. Kennan from his Princeton home. ''I think the Russians will gradually react quite adversely and it will affect their policies. I think it is a tragic mistake. There was no reason for this whatsoever. No one was threatening anybody else. This expansion would make the Founding Fathers of this country turn over in their graves. We have signed up to protect a whole series of countries, even though we have neither the resources nor the intention to do so in any serious way. [NATO expansion] was simply a light-hearted action by a Senate that has no real interest in foreign affairs.''

''What bothers me is how superficial and ill informed the whole Senate debate was,'' added Mr. Kennan, who was present at the creation of NATO and whose anonymous 1947 article in the journal Foreign Affairs, signed ''X,'' defined America's cold-war containment policy for 40 years. ''I was particularly bothered by the references to Russia as a country dying to attack Western Europe. Don't people understand? Our differences in the cold war were with the Soviet Communist regime. And now we are turning our backs on the very people who mounted the greatest bloodless revolution in history to remove that Soviet regime.

''And Russia's democracy is as far advanced, if not farther, as any of these countries we've just signed up to defend from Russia,'' said Mr. Kennan, who joined the State Department in 1926 and was U.S. Ambassador to Moscow in 1952. ''It shows so little understanding of Russian history and Soviet history. Of course there is going to be a bad reaction from Russia, and then [the NATO expanders] will say that we always told you that is how the Russians are -- but this is just wrong.''

One only wonders what future historians will say. If we are lucky they will say that NATO expansion to Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic simply didn't matter, because the vacuum it was supposed to fill had already been filled, only the Clinton team couldn't see it. They will say that the forces of globalization integrating Europe, coupled with the new arms control agreements, proved to be so powerful that Russia, despite NATO expansion, moved ahead with democratization and Westernization, and was gradually drawn into a loosely unified Europe. If we are unlucky they will say, as Mr. Kennan predicts, that NATO expansion set up a situation in which NATO now has to either expand all the way to Russia's border, triggering a new cold war, or stop expanding after these three new countries and create a new dividing line through Europe.

But there is one thing future historians will surely remark upon, and that is the utter poverty of imagination that characterized U.S. foreign policy in the late 1990's. They will note that one of the seminal events of this century took place between 1989 and 1992 -- the collapse of the Soviet Empire, which had the capability, imperial intentions and ideology to truly threaten the entire free world. Thanks to Western resolve and the courage of Russian democrats, that Soviet Empire collapsed without a shot, spawning a democratic Russia, setting free the former Soviet republics and leading to unprecedented arms control agreements with the U.S.

And what was America's response? It was to expand the NATO cold-war alliance against Russia and bring it closer to Russia's borders.

Yes, tell your children, and your children's children, that you lived in the age of Bill Clinton and William Cohen, the age of Madeleine Albright and Sandy Berger, the age of Trent Lott and Joe Lieberman, and you too were present at the creation of the post-cold-war order, when these foreign policy Titans put their heads together and produced . . . a mouse.

We are in the age of midgets. The only good news is that we got here in one piece because there was another age -- one of great statesmen who had both imagination and courage.

As he said goodbye to me on the phone, Mr. Kennan added just one more thing: ''This has been my life, and it pains me to see it so screwed up in the end.''

As for the statement concerning Turkey, he possibly means Russian jets violating the airspace - which is very correct. It has put Russia and Turkey on a disagreement over the nuclear power plant project to be constructed in that nation by Russian company. Those cruise missiles actually land in Iran but the government denies it for the fact it is a friendly nation to Putin state. I heard they land in rural areas with possibly very small casualties to be taken serious by Iranian government.

So you "heard" they fell in Iran. The people you heard it from, have and they proven it?

The precision of those missiles have been contested in the bombardment of rebels in Syria. I don't know what else you expect to see. These are missiles that move at lower altitude over Iraq before hitting target in Syria.

The proofs are from secret American information within that region. USA is very familiar with that area more than Russia.

What was the UK looking for in the Suez Canal? Egypt was under no pact with anyone and Egypt definitely isn't part of the Western bloc...so why go trouble an independent country?

The US supported the UK and French invasion of Egypt, hence it had to act when Khrushchev threatened to nuke both Paris and London. That was one of the biggest foreign policy gaffes ever by the UK - hence the UK stopped invading countries. The UK was so embarrassed by the Suez Crisis that the reality check dawned on the country that the empire is dead. That was also one reason why the UK was so reluctant to engage Argentina in the Falklands War until it became a war of necessity.

Whenever Russia and US are mentioned, some people start misbehaving. Let me summarize this issue once again. Every country in this syria mess are guilty of pursuing their selfish interest. What you are seeing in syria today is not about saving syrians, far from it. it is about some selfish interset by the powers that be.

1. US is in syria not really to fight ISIS but to remove Assad, checkmate Iran and to secure some economic deals among other selfish interests.
2. Russia is in syria to Prevent Assad from falling, safeguard their Naval base in syria, secure economic deals, protect other selfish interest and challenge the US and bring back the Russian power and not to fight ISIS
3. Iran is player in the conflict to further her own growing influence having captured Iraq, by ensuring the syrian govt stands and not necessarily fighting ISIS
4. Saudi, Turkey etc are in the region to ensure Iran does not have the upper hand and to ensure power is returned to the Sunnis in Syria.
5. ISIS is fighting to create its own Islamic state where they can rule with their own version of Sharia law and fortunately for them, the people who should fight them have their main interests

So in this war, fighting ISIS is secondary among all the players and an excuse to be in syria. Unfortunately, the losers are the civilians who have been used to play war games among competing interests. Anybody who thinks Putin is in syria to fight ISIS and save civilians is just plain naive. Like the US, wetin concern Putin with ISIS. Now, as i write, Yemen is on fire. The govt forces backed by the saudi's is bombing the houti rebels while Iran is sponsoring the rebels because they are shittes. Civilians are dying in droves, both Russia and the US are just watching and supporting form the sidelines because Yemen offers no benefit. The same Iran backing govt forces in Syria is backing rebels in Yemen while the Saudis and the Americans backing rebels in Syria are backing govt forces in Yemen. Where is Russia in Yemen? No where because there interest is not there despite civilians dying.
Gentlemen, this world powers are so selfish and wicked. It pans me to see how nairalanders take sides in this evils committed against humanity. people are dying in thousands and what some people are interested is in how Russia will defeat America or how America will defeat Russia insulting each other in the process. I warn you guys once again that this war you guys tactically wishing to happen between the US and Russia, when it happens, you might not live to know which cruise missile is superior to the other or who will win the war.
Thanks.

Lol! Where is Russia in Yemen you say? Why not ask where is the UN in Yemen? What exactly was the UN created for? The UN is hanging by the sidelines cupable to the acts committed by the depostic and fundamentalist regime of the Saudis propped up by the United States. A regime bombing civilians indiscriminately and with little or no media coverage whatsoever. Rather than do anything about, the UN rewards Saudi Arabia with the head of the Human Rights council!! So why I ask you again should Russia involve itself in a crisis that is of no strategic importance or threat to it?

Russia by the way airlifted civilians - including a lot of American citizens abandoned by the U.S. - at the beginning of this crisis. The United States was nowhere to be found. Go look it up yourself.

One quick correction on earlier discussion. During the Iraq war, most US cruise missiles flew over the Zagros mountain of Iran before heading West to Iraq because war planners were not sure if the featureless desert of Iraq will result to the loss of the Tomahawks.

You keep making excuses for Russia LOL. Russia only left when the Soviet Union fell and stay was no longer sustainable. If the could they will still be there.According to Russia historians, they liberated Hungry not conquered it. So your conquered territory excuse will not fly.

US occupied territories had elections, Japan was better off after the war even thou they were nuked, South Korea was better off and that was the same story with West Germany. There was a broad Marshall plan to rebuild those places. Every single city the Red Army " liberated" turned to shite and property looted back to Russia and dictators installed.

I repeat. US did not support British adventure in Egypt. Here is an excerpt from Rolling the Iron Dice: Historical Analogies and Decisions to Use Military Force in Regional Contingencies Ike was not interested in any military adventure whatsoever.

US is a very imperfect society but Putin's Russia is no Eldorado as well.

I know you would never accept that because Iran and Russia are two rogue nations that wouldn't admit something of that nature if it ever happened.

There is evidence ISIS is gaining ground in Syria. So the targets are possibly the wrong locations not ISIS. What do you say about that?

As we discuss here there are suicide bombs which rock Turkey killing more than 30 people, meaning terror is gaining ground even around the region despite Russian attacks.

In your attempt to save face and withdraw from your failed - and I must say baseless - argument, you have digressed with irrelevant events (the bombing in Turkey this morning) that has nothing to do with the issue being discussed (did missiles fall or did they not fall in Iran - simple!). There was an attack several months back at a pro Kurd rally loooong before Russia got involved in this mess that Uncle Sam and its allies have caused in Syria as there has been other attacks way back in time and as there probably would still be in the future.
So, sir, this has nothing to do with Russia. The struggle between the Kurds (the largest ethnic group in the world without a country of theirs) in Iraq, Syria and Turkey and the respective governments that host them has been a long and violent one.

And about ISIS gaining ground, I am confident that you are smart enough to realize that this also can be stored in that propaganda folder that also contains other fairytales such as:

- Saddam has weapons of mass destruction
- Saddam is in cahoots with Al-Qaeda
- Russia has invaded Ukraine ( this was laughably a weekly accusation)
- Russia has seized the black box of flight MH17 and its in the Kremlin as we speak
- The Syrian regime used chemical weapons on its people in Ghouta in 2013 (long debunked and refuted)
- 70% of the rebels are FSA and moderates according to bat sh*t crazy Senator McCain

- AND SO ON AND ON......

I just added that for you to know that the Russian attack is not affecting terror. At least, it would have brought fear to any terror group around that region. That is related to talking about gaining ground.

Most opposition news report that ISIS is gaining ground. That is a fact you cannot deny. If you claim those are propaganda then the ones said used against USA are propaganda as well. It is like the pot calling the kettle black

Undergound,

The greatest lie last year was "There are no Russian troops in Crimea" Even thou we could see them appearing everywhere.

Point is, Every nation lies. In fact diplomats and government officials see it as an essential tool in diplomatic maneuvering. Russia lies everytime, America lies more heck even the Vatican lies all the time.

That's why we need a bi-polar (multi-polar) world where one country won't have absolute powers. The US had its time after the collapse of the Soviet Union. What did it do? It destroyed world peace with bombs while masking it with humanitarian intervention. It also created all the Muslim fundamentalists inconjuction with Saudi Arabia and Qatar to make our lives miserable with war mongering. Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, and now Syria with tens of millions dead and utter destruction everywhere. Some of these country will never recover from the utter destruction the US dealt on them. Evidently, if a next country is willing to come from the other side to put an end to the madness and create an atmosphere where vulnerable countries would be given cover from US' utter destruction and death squads under the banner of Jihadists - you just have to laud it. The whole world is behind Russia (based on public opinions) - from the UK (even the overwhelming majority of right-wing nutters), to Germany, to France, to Australia, to New Zealand, to Romania, to Czech, to Africa etc.. So he's the saviour from US' madness till proven otherwise. For how long are we going to be hiding from CIA created Islamists with people disturbing our lives with unnecessary surveillance and harassment at airport over false-flag?

Lmao! What NATO? I've never seen NATO deploy the Tomahawk missiles from over 1,000 miles. Just as the US has Patriot missiles, but we know the s300 is far superior to it. Ditto one-minute man vs. Topol. Please, don't compare a paper-tiger with the real deal. Yes, NATO has a far wider reach with quantity but Russia provides quality. grin

Well, I've never called Daily Beast a CIA mouthpiece. Matter of fact, I reference Daily Beast more often than any other US publication. Don't twist my words.

Anyway, how are ya Jihadist friends? I heard they're running for their lives now. grin
You're terribly misinformed

cheesy Those little green men that fell out of nowhere right? That Putin claimed were a "local defense force"? Lol!!

Well, at least I agree with u on that. That was a big, bold lie! Nonetheless is was absolutely necessary that it went down the way it did. Russia was about to lose Crimea which historically used to be part of Russia and which was hosting a very strategic naval base.

Ask yourself, what would America had done if faced with such a threat?
