HOW TO WRITE A FABULOUS CONSTRUCTION REPORT.
Writing a report on a site you visited can pose a problem if you don't know what you are expected to write.
To write a good site construction report, here are some of guidelines to writing a gnarly site report
1) PROJECT/CONTRACTORS BOARD: here, you are expected to write all the information available on the board, such as the name of client, contractor, the builder, Quantity surveyor, architect and every other professional that are part of the construction team.
Its its usually located at the entrance to a site. Its always a cynosure.
In a case where there is no project board, you'll need to be inquisitive about those information. 2) THE NAME OF THE BUILDER/ENGINEER IN CHARGE OF THE PROJECT: your manner of approach will go a long way to if the builder or engineer on site will give attention to your request. Once you overcome such, you can conveniently ask of his/ her name and qualifications.
3) DATE & TIME OF VISIT: The date must be included in your report. The time of visit must equally be recorded ( time or entry and time of exit)
4) MAIN BODY OF THE REPORT: the body of d report should contain general information about the project such as the type of the building, purpose of the building, etc. Here you also write about the things you met the operatives on site doing and the stage/level at which the construction is presently, for instance, maybe the level of work is trench excavation or they have gone up to roof level. The site layout, safety measures on site, whatever the case may be.
You also need to explain extensively the methods/techniques of construction adopted for the project.
Don't forget that it's pertinent that you ensure you add new things you see on site; such as new method of construction, new materials on site, improved techniques and facilities etc. 5) MATERIALS & EQUIPMENTS: you need to be observant to pen down list of materials and equipments you saw on d site and what they are used for. 6) PICTURES and SKETCHES: ensure that pictures and sketches of observed construction details, plans, equipment, element you saw on the site are present in ur report. To have a good site visit report, all of the aforementioned points must be present in it.
ADVICE:
>on your entry to any site, respect is reciprocal they say. Ensure you work up to the site office if any and ask of the builder/engineer in charge of the construction.
> introduce your personality ( you can show you identity card I.e ID Card) as a means of identification and state the aim /objective(s)of visit.
> once the builder or engineer allows you on site, do as questions and be observant.
>Conversely, if you are denied access to the site, kindly walk away to the next site of visit.
>Endeavour to ask questions on things you don't understand and be courteous in you manner of approach.
The aforementioned guildlines above will surely help construction student to write a good construction report.
