Nigeria as a country need restructuring, even the British, US know that Nigeria will break up one day. UK has 4 countries in it, eg Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, then ask yourself why they cannot be one country like Nigeria, USA has all it states operating as a semi independent country, immigration law in Texas is not the same with California, China has Taiwan, Hong Kong, Tibet and Macau as part of China which are all semi independent, without confederation in Nigeria there will be no peace, Nigeria need to go back to Aburi peace accord, Nigeria will never be a progressive country because Nigeria is made up of irreconcilable entities that cannot align, Nigeria is supposed to be made up of 5 countries eg Arewa, Biafra, Midland, Oduduwa and Niger Delta Republic, under confederation just like UK, China, Netherlands etc, Nigeria need this structure for peace to reign.

We were practising this before some greedy people, in their bid to lord it over others, cancelled it and introduced the devilish unitary system, that has been the clog in the wheel of progress of this nation and our bane since 1966.

All these they did, after killing leaders of other regions and telling us how Angel Gabriel protected the leaders from their own ethnicity from being killed by the trigger army mor0ns.

But his views is to the point.
Nigeria can't make a single nation but a confederation of nations at best. Otherwise, she is bound to break up someday. The component ethnicities that make up Nigeria haven't got the pedigree to jointly make it a nation.
Whatever anyone may say, am praying very hard for the biafra project to succeed and that's not saying am Ibo but just believe this country must split.
No one needs a crystal ball to know that a century-old experiment that ended in hopelessness and more dis-unity than it started has no future.

Nigeria is a fraud

This lie has been debunked so many times on nairaland and yet you people keep using it to suit your agenda against ndigbo. A lie can be repeated a million times but it's still a lie.

Aguiyi Ironsi Never ever cancelled the regional system. What he did was to unify the civil service in all region under the millitary command to maintain order after the nzeogwu led coup

Do you know who actually destroyed the regional system? It was GOWAN. Yes Gowan did it. He dissolved the regional system during the civil war and began to create useless states and lgs.

The UK model would be the best for Nigeria. The different countries can even have different levels of autonomy, including opting to secede like Republic of Ireland

Nations like the Igbo and Yoruba are large enough to be on their own. Referendums can be done to determine the boundaries of the 5 regions

I have been an advocate of this proposal for many years and nothing I have seen so far is yet to change my mind

I was truly shocked that the last national conference rejected regionalism and even proposed to create an additional 18 states

Mr super so appointing a regional military government is the same as dissolving the region. I still don't see anywhere in his speech where he said the regions ceases to exist. In the beginning of his speech, he made it clear that it was to maintain order. Was it not also an Igbo man that stopped the coup. If it was an agenda for Igbos to rule, then why would ojukwu help stop the coup.

The only mistake Ironsi made was not arresting nzeogwu because that made it look like a planned Igbo coup even though the real counter-coup was also done by Igbo generals.

You are very funny.

Before the coup, regional govts were not reporting to the central Federal Govt and Mr Ironsi by fiat said, going forward all regional heads must report to me.

That singular act abolished regionalism and instils unitarism, which is the only language of the military.

By extension, Mr Ironsi -- an Igbo man, abolished our thriving regionalism and introduced unitarism. Gowon merely up-scaled what Ironsi introduced.

Be that as it may, regionalism still remains our best bet for this country and a faster route to actualisation of secession dream.

It is quite surprising that none of the other regions except SW, clamoured for regionalism in the last national jamboree of a conference.

Take away your tribalism for once and put yourself in Ironsi shoes. He governed the country in a chaotic period the only way that made sense to him which was using the military command structure. What would you have done differently if you were the highest ranking military officer. In fact one of his closest friend at that time was Danjuma who later killed him in the fake counter coup. If it was Igbo coup, he would have made sure all his associates where all Igbo. The second highest ranking officer at that time was a Yoruba man. I forgot his name but that was the man ojukwu told Gowan to step down for. But Gowan refused. Mind you in Thailand, the military takes over periodically whenever the civilian government becomes chaotic and restores civil rule onces things get sorted out. No civilian population gets massacred.

Dundee, what's the use of region when it's not practising federalism and had the head of state foisting leaders on them? Do you know the creation of states doesn't stop the states from practising true federalism if allowed?
Let me ask you, What business do the goat, Ojukwu have with governing the north under Ironsi regime, especially after the same ibo killed their sarduna?
As a matter of fact, the creation of state is the best thing to ever happen to Nigeria in the sense that it prevented ibo thieves from claiming peoples' land and region!

If he had:

1. Maintain civilian rule at regional level

2. Speedily prosecute the coup plotters.

3. Institute a clear cut road map back to democracy

Things would have been totally different because everybody would have been placated one way or the other.

The Thai military that takes over regularly do not kill the leaders of other regions and protect the people that are of ther own ethnicity. It makes it easy for the citizens to accept the govt fully in the interim, pending when power shall be returned back to the civilians.

Yoruba have only ruled through democratic setting and as such are powerless to impose such decree!

Nigeria has 36 autonomous countries and each one of them has Rights to secede if it fights right. Let the Governor, the Chief Judge, the Speaker of the Assembly and the Chairmen of the state's local government present "Sworn Affidavits" to the three Tiers of Federal Government, that they agree to secede, Heaven and hell will approve. But this Biafra issue is funny. It is greedy and corrupt, as no responsible member of that area is openly willing to support the irresponsibility of a common N. Kalu. Now that he has been arrested, let him rust and roast in a hell in a cell till he cannot be given free meal, then bring him out and have him beheaded isis style. The Bible says spare the rod and spoil the child. Nigeria will be spoiling our future generation if we spare corrective punishment for the likes of N. Kalu. Even the U.N. hasn't got the Power to deny Nigeria the rights to discipline her own sons and daughters, the Bible way. Unless the UN, US, UK, and EU are sponsoring terrorism and trying Nigeria in Nigeria.

It is the way Igbos believe they were not allowed to form their country that is insulting and annoying to our sensibilities. You initiated a reaction that snowballed into a full scale war and you are still accusing others.

If there was no coup of January 1966, definitely there will not have been the pogrom of July 1966 and we won't be here talking about one stup1d Aburi Accord and the unfortunate Biafran war.
