The Worst NYSC Orientation Camps to
Appear on your Call-up Letter
BY TM · OCTOBER 26, 2015
The condition of NYSC orientation camps will
always be rated by the corps members that
passed through such camps and the results
thereof are relatively arguable whereas, the
deplorable state of most if not all NYSC
camps is now very alarming knowing well that
a camp is not supposed to be a luxury
vacation. However, from numerous reactions
gotten from corps members to have undergone
orientation in the various camps around the
country, we have been able to collate the top
five worst of them all. But before we continue,
let us establish some facts:
1. Food in every camp is terrible so come with
enough food money for 3 weeks if you
don’t have the stomach for what is served.
2. Everything is regimented so there’s little or
no free/personal time
3. SAED is compulsory so you can be a bada
$$ and dodge it
4. Mami Market things are quite expensive
5. The best day in camp is “Camp Fire
Night,”argue with your camp director and
commandant
Well… If you happen to be called up to the
following camps, you are sorta-kinda screwed;
excluding the disaster prone areas that
created the much needed stream B scenario. Ekiti NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ise-Orun/ Emure Local Government Area, Ekiti State. It was reported that the camp used to be a school built during the time of Lord Lugard. If you happen to be in need of latrine services, you will have to use the Shot-Put method or the makeshift Out-House made of tree fronds. The hostels are congested and below normal living conditions of any human little less a graduate of a higher institution. Oyo Government Technical College, Iseyin Local Government Area, Iseyin, Oyo State has been described as one of the worst camps in Nigeria. Corp members who have served in the state say getting potable water inside the camp is hell, the camp’s modern bathrooms are a no-go area as well, forcing them to bathe outside in makeshift bathrooms. There are reports that a new camp is being built at the moment. Imo NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umudi Nkwerre Local Government Area, Imo State. “Na imo camp worse past na semi-boarding shool den dey us,na one school opposite football field be their parade ground, if we wan do inter platoon parade practice na one Anglican church field. Some dey manage, Umudi na d worse camp.” Kogi “NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Asaya, Kabba Local Government Area, Kogi State is not as good as they say, there are no toilets so you must do it in the bush, even ladies. There are no exceptions. The hostels are not enough so some of you will sleep in the store popularly known as “Jamaica” (late comers). The ladies will also have a makeshift hostel from some offices there. In the morning the ladies bath outside most times as early as 4am to avoid a situation where the boys will peep.” Sokoto Government Technical College Farfaru, Farfaru Local Government Area, Sokoto State. Below are some individual quotes from corps members that have experienced the camp: “Farfaru Sokoto state camp is the worst camp in Nigeria, I rep 2012 batch B.” “We were given ‘Five-star’ hostels to sleep in.” “There was a brouhaha caused by a gentleman falling off a dilapidated bunk” “Three long weeks of excruciating desert heat” “Presence of tight-armed security” |
